Having been inspired by the amount of Sonic themed custom Yu-Gi-Oh cards seen here and there on Deviantart, I decided to go the route of making the number one game franchise into their own set of Yu-Gi-Oh cards. I call this custom set Game Heroes (which ironically will include villans and anti-heroes as well).So far, I'm working only on Mario characters at the moment. Eventually, I'll follow the trend of the Sonic series and a few other game series we all know and love.
Anyway, first we have lovable old Mario, the granddaddy of modern gaming. Without him, we would likely not have any video games in today's society, so what better way to start this little project of mine than to immortalize him in a Yu-Gi-Oh card?
I've never collected any Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and ones I've seen in person I was never able to study thuroughly, so I may have gotten something wrong while making this card. If I did, please let me know so all the other cards I've made so far can be corrected.
Anyway, Mario's a farily basic effect card as you can see. Here's his entire readout:
Attack points: 2200
Defense Points: 2000
Element: Fire (due to his Fire hand tecnique in Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga)
Type: Human/Effect
Effect: Spin Jump- By sacrificing 500 life points, Mario can destroy a monster in defense mode and deliver damage to your opponent. The damage inflicted depends on the difference between Mario's attack points and the target monster's attack points.
Mario gains a 300 attack point boost for every Luigi the Plumber, Yoshi the Dinosaur, Princess Peach, and Toad card in play.

For someone who isn't acquainted with the series, you make a mighty fine Yu-gi-Oh card. The effect seems more in-line with things I've seen in "Magic the Gathering" but to be honest, Yu-gi-Oh's effects aren't as cool as Magic's so it's a plus. I also like how you didn't go ballistic overboard with Mario's stats and instead gave him something pretty modest but still usable.
The only things I'm not so keen on for the card is the star level (2200 seems like hight attack for only 4-5 stars...then again, neither you nor I ever understood that system so there's a good chance I'm wrong). Also, Mario's picture itself looks a little stretched and the blank background is a little distracting. However, the way the card itself plays out is very interesting and well-done.

Looks great, just one point. Usually a card with that sort of stats and ability would be 7 or 8 stars. 5 would be more around maybe 1500 for stats and the ability for just one type of card. But that's all I can find wrong. Outstanding art work, great concept too.

I was suprised how no one has done a Mario series of Yu-Gi-Oh cards yet, so I decided to fix that. I've got some more incredible ones where that came from, like Bowser and Giga Bowser. In fact, I'll upload those two next.

Yeah, the effect was inspired by how some of the more durable enemies in Super Mario World could be destroyed by the Spin Jump attack like the Buzzy Beetles.
