Description Steele rocking the backpack. He loves having a job to do!

Many people search for puppies of Steele's caliber and yet at only 18 months of age, Steele found himself sitting on death row at the South LA Animal Shelter. The lovely shelter staff found Steele to be so warm and loving that they championed his cause and pleaded for a rescue group to step in. Steele had a tail injury that needed medical attention and his chances of being adopted by the public with this injury were slim to none. Rescue was his only option. Coastal GS Rescue stepped in and Steele is now safe with us. He is kenneled with a female GSD and they are getting along great. He would love an active home where he could go on hikes, runs and perhaps even show off some skills with obedience training.

We won't sugar coat that Steele has had it easy as he's transitioned from what had to be a terribly frustrated life to where he is today. Mentally, he has been jumbled and gets his energy expended by chasing his tail. This has damaged his tail to the point that its been operated on twice - now he is on medication that is helping his brain calm down, allowing his tail to heal and get on the road to recovery. Steele is fantastic with other dogs - his very best buddy is an unaltered boy (Astro - who will be neutered once he is healthy) and they play non stop. Steele plays tug of war with rubber balls, rope toys, etc - he is loud and proud but a fantastic playmate for another active young shepherd. Steele has a very high ball drive and when told to "get your ball", will go running and searching until he finds the one he wants.

He is housebroken, understands commands and will thrive with an adopter with the same high energy level and desire to be active every day. This is a special dog looking for a special home.

He is very photogenic. He's my favorite to photograph, I have a bunch of pics of him.

My condolences to you and your family. I personally feel dogs open the eyes of their humans. My dog changed my life for the better.
