Awesome shot Addam, it's like it's floating in mid air!

Forgive my nerdy Harry Potter reference...but...it looks like someone took the Sorting Hat and threw it in the river in the middle of a snowstorm...and it got iced over...
...okay...nerdy English teacher moment over.

Seriously though, I love the floating effect created by the longer exposure. Now i'm wondering if you knew what this would look like when you set up the shot...or if it was one of those happy surprises later on when you saw the UFO/HP Sorting Hat.

Awesome work, Addam!

:nerd unfortunately i dont get the reference to the sorting hat..so no forgiveness needed!

i had a good idea of the outcome while setting up, noticed the floating in a few pictures prior, saw this "sorting hat" in the distance and knew i had to get close! what i didnt anticipate is how much better it looked singled/cropped from the background..all that time composing on thin and slick ice but i only cropped the top portion so no real resolution was lost

so do you reference HP in your AP?!

We'll have to watch HP after we watch Twilight...

I don't reference HP in my AP...but several of my students do!

yeah?! Seeing as how some of the mountains might still be closed when I come back in a few weeks...maybe I'll stash it in my suitcase... right under Twitlight...

I love how surreal it looks and have noticed the hovering effect in your last few pics too
You really made use of it in this one!

Also, if you had your ISO on 100, you'd have gotten the same exposure with a lower aperture (high aperture settings can make a photo soft) - but if you had it high for maximum DOF, ignore me

hey thanks George!

i had initially composed for a backdrop which is why i chose the small aperture, was going to switch to the 50mm but it didnt quite have the range..plus it was freezing! and would love to have ISO100 but my camera only goes down to 200, something that still is proving hard for me to remember coming from a previous body that went to ISO64! thanks for the feedback..much appreciated
