Call this "prequel" artwork if you will, even as much of the main stories for both of these characters haven't been revealed yet.

Dagger Branson has dated many girls in his life, and had flings with many more. One of his best and most important relationships, oddly enough, is with someone whom he's never considered a lover in the traditional sense, and yet his love for her is among the strongest he's ever shared with anyone. That someone is none other than his fellow Texan, the lovely Traeci Lee.

The Texarkana fox-wolf, who had moved back to her hometown after going to college in Florida and meeting her future lover Matt Johnson in the process, first came across the German shepherd from San Angelo while she was on vacation in Surfside Beach, where he lived at the time. The two hit it off very well, but Traeci wasn't as willing as Dagger to get into a full-fledged relationship. While she said that it was too soon for her to even think about that when they had only just met, she was also secretly starting to feel that M.J. had taken her heart at that point. Still, they promised to at least keep in touch with each other, as they felt a rather unique bond with each other which they didn't want to break. And even if they decided not to become romantically involved, as they held each other tightly on her final night in Surfside, they gradually felt they should at the very least make it a proper goodbye...

The main reason why I drew these two together, actually, was because I wanted to tease the potential crossover potential of the NextGeniverse, at least to a relatively small degree so early on. The two won't be appearing in each other's stories just yet, of course, as they need to be established individually first before any of that happens. However, having "interstory" relationships like this certainly brings its own share of interesting ideas!

And yes, that is yet another new outfit for Traeci, partially inspired by some dress that was seemingly intended more as a typical "cowgirl" Halloween costume but which was generally of a style that I think could fit Traeci's personality and fashion sense quite a lot. Her white 10-gallon hat was inspired by Sissy Spacek in the Loretta Lynn biopic COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER.
