Aww...what are you trying to use now?

Theaquadragon In reply to Nyaasu [2014-01-18 01:39:40 +0000 UTC]

Autodesk.

Which fails at coloring.

There are a few free art programs you can try - there's Gimp, which I personally don't like, and there's also FireAlpaca, which I think is pretty good!

I do have gimp, which I haven't tried out yet.

FireAlpaca? THE ALPACAS ARE ON FIRE!!!

Hahaha, yeah, it's a funny name, but a great free program!!

i don't get the part where you color the back ground

Nyaasu In reply to etty1999 [2012-07-14 17:03:36 +0000 UTC]

I do that so I can easily tell where the edges of the ink are -- that way I don't color over the lines with my white base.

Question: Do I have to sketch before scanning and make it a line art before coloring and shading?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyaasu In reply to WiiManStudio [2010-04-11 23:12:25 +0000 UTC]

Well, I put a link in the description for how to prepare your line art -- it works with both a sketch and clean art. For this example, though, I made clean line art with photoshop first. xD

WiiManStudio In reply to Nyaasu [2010-04-11 23:21:46 +0000 UTC]

So I would have to sketch the art first, scan or photograph it and then apply the "pen" tool (I think) for clean lining right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyaasu In reply to WiiManStudio [2010-04-11 23:44:38 +0000 UTC]

You can do it that way. :3 I use the paintbrush tool, because I have a tablet. :3

WiiManStudio In reply to Nyaasu [2010-04-11 23:53:39 +0000 UTC]

Tablet again? Now I really want that iPad now. BTW, for the liner, is there a way to customize the thickness, style, or other for the lines?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyaasu In reply to WiiManStudio [2010-04-12 00:30:34 +0000 UTC]

The liner, you mean the pen tool? To be honest, I have never used it... xD But for the paintbrush tool, yes, you can set custom styles to is, by going to "window" -> Brushes, and altering the settings in there. :3 It works best with a tablet, though...

I use a PC, and my tablet is a Wacom, if that is any help to you... x3

WiiManStudio In reply to Nyaasu [2010-04-12 02:41:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, I hope to get the iPad soon as I can create more complex work like everyone else.

Nyaasu In reply to WiiManStudio [2010-04-12 13:42:05 +0000 UTC]

x3 I hope you get it too soon, then! But I think it would be cheaper to buy a tablet for your existing computer! x3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WiiManStudio In reply to Nyaasu [2010-04-12 19:01:22 +0000 UTC]

It maybe cheaper, but I heard that sometimes those tablets can be a bit frustrating to use because of it's sometimes hindered performances and I can see where the cursor will go nor tell where to precisely touch. The iPad however, is the best solution because you can see what you doing and where you're drawing onscreen. So, iPad for me it is. It may be $500, but compare to other touchscreen tablets I've heard of on the market that costs almost double the price (T_T I'm looking at yours, Wacom), it's well worth it. ^_^

Nyaasu In reply to WiiManStudio [2010-04-12 19:14:20 +0000 UTC]

That's true, I'm very comfortable with my Wacom, but it makes sense to want to draw directly on the screen. In fact, I'd buy a touchscreen tablet myself, but I don't have that kinda money. xD But, when you get your iPad, let me know how you like it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WiiManStudio In reply to Nyaasu [2010-04-12 19:19:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Okay. I'll let you know once I have it in my hands. And the best thing about the iPad thing is that I purchased a program called "ArtStudio"; which most people call it "Photoshop for iPod/iPhone/iPad" because it has loads of features, tools, and smooth performances so when I have the iPad, I'll be ready to begin drawing more complex arts and my Pokemon XD comic I was planning to do.

Sounds good to me! x3
When do you think you would get your iPad?

WiiManStudio In reply to Nyaasu [2010-04-12 19:38:26 +0000 UTC]

Hopefully by this summer I'll get one. What about you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyaasu In reply to WiiManStudio [2010-04-12 19:40:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, I wasn't planning on getting one...I don't know what I'd use it for...but, if you try it and like it a lot for your drawings, I may just be tempted, when it gets cheaper! xD Right now, I am like, scraping the barrel as far as money goes. xD My stupid car and school still need to be paid off, and it's bleeding me dry xD

WiiManStudio In reply to Nyaasu [2010-04-12 19:45:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh. That sucks. You're lucky to have a car and school and maybe a job as well. I got nothing.

Why you're sad? You got something and I'm just stuck in my Florida house. -_-

Nyaasu In reply to WiiManStudio [2010-04-12 20:51:07 +0000 UTC]

'Cuz my job pays crap and I have too much to pay for. But I will be OK. I hope things get better for you though.

At least you're lucky to have one. I hope so that my life will turn around sooner than never.

I'm a little confused as to the point of the "white-then overlay other color/green"... If you've already colored with a neat base, why not just start with the base color (green, in this case) itself? Then use that as the selection, and add in the other color layers?

Obviously, it works wonderfully for you, but I'm wondering if there's a difference between "use white, overlay the color, then select" and "use main base color, use that to select" =/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyaasu In reply to Arcticwaters [2010-01-01 02:58:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh! That works, too, I just like to use white so that it is easy to make sure it is ENTIRELY colored in, some colors are hard to tell, and then when you ctrl-click to get the selection, some tiny pieces aren't filled in and it's annoying. xD I should have said that. x3

Arcticwaters In reply to Nyaasu [2010-01-01 07:26:14 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that makes sense :3

Nyaasu In reply to Arcticwaters [2010-01-01 20:32:20 +0000 UTC]

Heehee, but you're right, you can skip that little detail if you want by just coloring it the base color. x3

I just kinda colored this how I always do and took many screen shots. xD xD xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arcticwaters In reply to Nyaasu [2010-01-01 23:37:00 +0000 UTC]

lol, I get that x3 It does seem like a good way to make sure you get the coloring done right :3

I personally just select inside the lineart and put all (or most) of the color(s) on one layer, under the lineart. Cause I'm lazy like that and I find it easier x3 (Unless I feel like paying close attention to detail; but my computer also doesn't like a lot of layers.)

Nyaasu In reply to Arcticwaters [2010-01-02 00:12:13 +0000 UTC]

Oh I've been there. x3 When I used to use OpenCanvas more than Photoshop, since OC is a memory hog, I could only make a few layers, so I had to consolidate colors that way, too. x3

domon9884 [2009-12-31 08:39:31 +0000 UTC]

So far it's not incredibly different from the way I apply flats. I do each color (or set of colors) on a layer, then I just lock transparency.

RikuSoraFan [2009-12-31 05:00:36 +0000 UTC]

can i just use the paint bucket tool instead of the brush tool?

Nyaasu In reply to RikuSoraFan [2009-12-31 05:05:29 +0000 UTC]

NOOOOOOO xD

You should do things on different layers, it makes things start looking really nice!
