Description What comes next: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlBPO0…

This is based on the IDW Ghostbusters comics, where the Ghostbusters from the IDW universe meet the Ghostbusters from the Real Ghostbusters (cartoon) universe. They all get along pretty well, except the two Peters, which is pretty much the greatest thing I've ever seen. xD IDW Peter can't stand Real Ghostbusters Peter, and the rest of the staff at the IDW firehouse are glad Peter finally understands just how irritating he is.

I love their dynamic so much I almost ship it.

I'm actually very proud of this, every part of it. The sketch went great (I wanted very wrinkly muzzles and I got that without much of a fight), the inking went very well, and then I learned a few tricks on simple shading while coloring. This probably took...5 hours total, which isn't so bad, but then again, it's just two heads. xD

I picture "Real" Peter being smaller, thinner, and younger than IDW Peter, but I may have made him too small here.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

xD I noticed you REALLY like those boys from Real Ghostbusters. It always makes me happy when I see your works of them because I love seeing people loving something so deeply! xD

I think I've actually seen tweets to you from at least one of the IDW Ghostbusters guys, so I had a feeling you knew them pretty well, or something like that. That's friggin' awesome! Whenever I contact someone like that (it's so rare, aside from an @ mention if I feel it's needed) I'm such a shy little shit, and I never would have spoken up about something like that. @_@

I actually DON'T think I did a good job with RGB Peter here, either because of the side-view, or trying to get that hairstyle to deal with a dog skull. But I vow to do better in the future, and also, I'll remember all the things you said about his li'l tuft. xD

TDotBabs In reply to Nyaasu [2017-05-21 00:14:11 +0000 UTC]

Dan's a pal of mine.  He's a blast to hang around and talk to!   And one of my best friends designed the RGB characters back in the 80s, so Peter means an absolute ton to me, in addition to being my childhood.  That little character is my roots, and my personal mascot.

As for the pic, it looked okay.  Honestly, I prefer Peter as a human, because he's cute as can be just the way he is.  But as a puppy he looked alright.

Out of curiosity though, do you draw humans?   If so, I'd love to see you take a crack at RGB Peter!   I did a model sheet for him if it helps!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyaasu In reply to TDotBabs [2017-05-21 03:14:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, the dog thing is kind of my crutch, since I'm not very good at humans (but that may just mean I don't have the same kind of artistic passion for them, I'm clever enough to know that's a possibility!).

The weird thing is that I prefer to see them as humans, as in the comic or cartoon, or if I was to commission them, but when it comes to me drawing them, I rely on my crutch. xD I probably shouldn't, but we'll get to the point where I force myself to stand without it someday, I hope. xD

That's a very helpful model sheet! Thank you! My style with humans is usually very "Anime", but considering my skillset there is not very strong yet, I'm sure it can fluctuate. Hell, I'd probably draw humans better if I tried a more American style with them, but damn do I love the style of anime. (And yet I don't watch anime, really. What gives? Well, Japanese video games, I guess, is the explanation for that.)

DO YOU KNOw...this just reminded me...I was out garage-sale-ing the other week (maybe a month and a half ago), and we found a guy selling comics. It turned out he actually worked in the comics industry as a writer for 30 years! He saw my Ghostbusters shirt and showed me that he had some of the Real Ghostbusters comics, and when at some point I mentioned that I designed toys for a living (possibly after he told me what he did), and we started talking about Style guides, he mentioned that he HAD the style guides for The Real Ghostbusters in his basement. I am generally shy, so I didn't ask to see them or anything, but maybe I should have!

Also I think I saw your friend who designed him on FA! Raccoon for an icon, right? He just watched me on there.

I DO NOT DESERVE ALL OF THIS ATTENTION

TDotBabs In reply to Nyaasu [2017-05-21 05:13:36 +0000 UTC]

Yup!  That would be Gabi.  She's an amazing lady....and she's a furry!  Peter's mama is a raccoon!

Honestly, drawing humans was something I avoided too.  Until I met Gabi, and I wanted to draw the Real Ghostbusters in earnest, because I wanted to bring Peter to life as well as she did.  She not only taught me how, but she also sat me down and taught me human anatomy.  The best part was that she let me use Peter as my learning aid.  She says that even though he's a toon, he's still put together somewhat realistically, so it's important to get anatomy right.  That was about 3 years ago, and after all that practice and studying, I not only can draw all the RGB characters perfectly, but I am a ton more comfortable drawing humans as a whole!

On a related note, would you be interested in an art trade sometimes?  You could draw me RGB Venkpup, and I could draw you some RGB characters as people?  Lemme know!

Nyaasu In reply to TDotBabs [2017-05-22 16:15:22 +0000 UTC]

Oh whoops! Actually, I usually assume (without realizing it) that everyone online is female, and the one time I don't, I'm wrong. MY BAD! Maybe I find raccoons to be masculine or something, haha.
She seems lovely.

Aww, that's awesome! This conversation made me remember posemaniacs.com, and I JUST realized how important "Warm-Up" sketches are to artistic success (not sure why that realization took me so long...?) so I've been doing their 30-second figure study now to warm up for a few minutes, EVEN if I plan on drawing dogs. Hopefully it will help! xD Because I love dogs, and I do feel like I get more squishy fun poses out of them than I do with humans, but I do wish sometimes I could draw humans, since there's nothing "attractive" to me about a dog. They're funny! But it's hard to draw something more romantic or even "sexy" with a dog, and damn do I ship the crap out of a lot of human characters.

Dude if I was better with humans do you know how trashy* my page would be? LMAO just Final Fantasy shipping trash on every page.
(Note: Not sold on any shippy stuff with the RGB, not sure how you feel on that either way but I thought I should get it out there, bahaha. The quip about shipping these two was a joke - it's the kind of pairing I love elsewhere, but I'm not entirely sold on that kind of thing with these guys, hahaha. Maybe because it's such a childhood thing? I have no idea.) xD
*Also note, what I consider "trashy" apparently wouldn't even get a mature rating anywhere, but still.

Haha, I'd love that!!! As a kid, Ray was my favorite, although as the years went by I forgot exactly why, all I knew was that fact (that I liked him). Watching it again now on Netflix, I understand why. He's the squishiest, sweetest, most adorable little thing and yeah, totally in line with my usual favorite characters.

Although I don't think I can do trades just yet - I actually get a lot of people asking me that, and I always have to say no for lack of time, so I want to do a few at once, so no one feels left out. I may have to focus mostly on commissions for a while, as the income from my job alone might not be enough soon to keep a roof over my head, but ultimately I am practicing so hard lately so that art will be faster for me, and I'll be able to do more things in less time, without loss of quality. So, I guess my short answer is I WOULD LOVE THAT, DUDE! But I need to sort some stuff out first.

TDotBabs In reply to Nyaasu [2017-05-22 19:38:39 +0000 UTC]

Noooo, I NEVER ship the RGB gang outside of canon stuff like Egon and Janine. Part of that is in respect to Gabi's characters, but the main reason is that Peter's just a kid. He's 25....but he's a toon who's designed to relate to the target audience. So emotionally and cognitively, little Pete's only about 8 -10 years old.

Anyway no worries about your schedule and stuff. Why not send me a note when you're ready to trade? I'd love to draw Ray for you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyaasu In reply to TDotBabs [2017-05-23 05:54:41 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's possibly why I'm not completely okay with that idea myself, despite being a shipping fiend otherwise, usually. I didn't really think about the fact that they're supposed to be relatable to kids, but that explains why I always got a very "young" vibe from them, despite the fact that I know they're adults. Well, Ray aside, since his childishness is pretty much an ongoing joke. (An adorable joke, haha.)

Squee! Haha, I'll try to remember that, although to be fair to everyone else whose asked me for trades, my plan was to make a journal, when I'm ready for them, and ask people to come forward who I've talked to about trades before, and I'd do a few at a time. The thing that usually sucks for me about trades is, I never know what *I* want (commissions are like this for me, too - sometimes I want to support an artist, but I don't know what I'd want drawn!), but this one's easy. If you like to draw the Real Ghostbusters, of course I'd want Ray!!!!

Man, now I really want to get my life together so I can do trades.

TDotBabs In reply to Nyaasu [2017-05-23 15:13:08 +0000 UTC]

Well in Ray's case, he wasn't a kid. He was an adult who enjoyed stuff like comics and cartoons. He the beauty of Ray's character is that he had a wonderful balance on life. He loved what he loved, but he was very smart and very wise. Compared to little Peter, who was still figuring things out about the world around him, and still growing up.

But yeah, the show overall was the closest thing the Ghostbusters franchise had to Muppet Babies.

Nyaasu In reply to TDotBabs [2017-05-23 15:54:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know he's not actually a kid, that's what makes the jokes funnier. Like when they needed someone "with the mind of a 6-year-old" to lure out the boogey man, and they all looked at Ray.

Oh man, I used to love Muppet Babies, too. x3

TDotBabs In reply to Nyaasu [2017-05-23 17:17:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. But I love moments that show how focused he is, or independent or intelligent. Ray had a zen to him that I always respected, and he always took an almost parental role with my little fella, sitting him down and reasoning with him when he could, but not above snapping at him if he got too out of line or messed something up.

Ray was a wonderful role model because he showed that being a grown up didn't mean you had to stop doing what you loved.

I have only re-watched about 10 episodes so far, but already I can see what you mean. And yes, I always loved characters like that, although among them, Ray is the only one I know who is also known for being above-average smart. So he's unique in that way!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TDotBabs In reply to Nyaasu [2017-05-23 22:08:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.  And he's grounded and disciplined, and mature.  He knows what he's about, and he's comfortable with himself, so he allows himself to enjoy life to its fullest without getting carried away.  I love all the RGB characters (Well, before Q5 ruined the show), but Winston and Ray are the ones I respect.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TDotBabs In reply to Nyaasu [2017-05-24 02:19:51 +0000 UTC]

Q5 was a parental quality control firm that ABC hired to sanitize their shows.  They were responsible for Janine completely changing, Ray almost getting removed from the show, and Peter became taller, older, stupider, and with a different voice.  I stay away from those episodes and just stick to the ones voiced by Lorenzo Music.

Nyaasu In reply to TDotBabs [2017-05-24 02:27:55 +0000 UTC]

After the first 78 episodes.  Stick with the first 78, and you're fine.  Ray stayed in, but that changed how he looked.  Made him stupider and they made him skinny and less cartoony.
