I'm so happyyyyy.... T.T This took so. freaking. long.Well, it started out as a 2000x1500 drawing, so the final version here got resized down to 1000x750 so your computer doesn't have a hernia trying to load it. If it had been a smaller drawing to begin with, it might not have taken as long, but where's the fun in thinking logically? >.>
Never again will I underestimate the importance (and annoyance) of backgrounds. Eeeeviiiillll. >.<
Seriously though, you have no idea how happy I am to finish this. That grass took so damn long. ;_; I ended up half-assing the background (the part of it that hadn't been finished in the WIP). I had grand visions of doing something... creative, but in the end I simply bumped the horizon line up to a place where it's probably not, but whatever. DevArt needs more tutorials on how to make sunsets. There's a lot of improv in that. -_- Oh, and the cast shadows look the way they do because the Shadow Ball is the main light source, not the sun.... What? >.> I didn't know what I was going to be doing for the background when I did the shading....
Er... as for concept of it (not like anybody cares about that), I think it started out as an idea for Glaceon's pose. (The "original sketch" is actually two separate drawings with only the Pokemon in them.) I dunno why I chose Umbreon over, say Flareon, but I think it was because I wanted the Shadow Ball in there. XP Well, and Umbreon is pretty kick-ass. =D

just wanted to say how brilliant this art is! i love the poses, and i can see how much effort you put into it..specially the grass! I'm working on a picture at the moment, (can't wait to finish it, been like a year since i started T_T) and i know how much of a pain grass is!you pulled it of great though, well done!

Eh, let's just leave it at I phail at drawing trees. Like I said, it looks nothing like the photo. Note how I positioned the tree exactly so that I wouldn't have to draw any of the branches. It's a tall tree. =w= Erm... and you can pretend that the roots are mostly hidden. That's why it's wider at the top....

Of course the tree looks weird! DX It's a non-traced tracing of a real tree with lots of random filters slapped on it because whenever I tried to use a tutorial it looked like a lumpy brown cylinder with weird lines on it.
