This is an alternative interpretation of the Delta7B paint scheme shown in the Clone Wars animated series. I felt like that one was a bit lacking so I came up with one that pays homage to Anakin's racing days and his love for fast flying machines.

Uh, no it doesn't. With the N1, the astromech's full body is actually there inside the the starfighter - you can clearly see R2 in his entirety enter under the fuselage via the internal hoist, and obviously he's able to exit. The head isn't detached, it's just extended on a telescoping strut, and there is actually room inside the fighter hull for the body.
But with the original Delta-7 Aethersprite the astromech is just the head wired into the wing, with nowhere below for the body to possibly be held. Nor anywhere in the fighter for it to be carried separately. That's why the Delta-7B not only relocates the astromech to the center but has more meat to its central slope.
