Description ASS CREED 3 SPOILERS WATCH OUT

I HAVE FEELINGS ABOUT THESE TWO OK

Out of the entire game, I felt this scene was the most emotional. Sure, I was sad to see Ziio and Achilles go, but with Haytham we really got to see his relationship to Connor--how they got on one another's nerves; Haytham's loss of control; the almost-there, stand-off-ish father/son relationship; and how there was an unsaid "I want to make you understand" coming from both sides...

Maybe most of my attachment to these two comes from my own experience... My older brother and I had never really been close and while we tried to connect, sometimes successfully, things never really worked out. He died about a year ago because of his lifestyle and out of all of it, I cried more over the loss of what could have been.

Unlike Ziio and Achillies, who Connor had really spent time with, I felt that by the end Connor wasn't so much mourning Haytham's death, so much as he was regretting that things hadn't been better between him and his father.

Fun thing to consider: I don't think Haytham was 'killed' by Connor. Haytham knows that the assassins use their hidden blade. Haytham's OWN blade was taken OFF an assassin. He makes the clear choice to take his hand OFF connor's blade. I think he meant for Connor to kill him. And When he says 'I should have killed you long ago.' It's half his thought, the other half being- 'But I didn't.'

There's no way Haytham just got careless. So unlike him.

This is easily one of my favorite AC3 pictures ever. It hits so perfectly, I am wrecked just looking at it, but can't look away D:

Interesting you mention your brother... My brother and I are dealing with the same issues and he is also on a destructive pathway. I am concerned for him, and hope it all works out. I hope he does not die from his choices either. BTW, like the pic. c:

This part of the game hit me more than the ending. I really liked Haytham and his cocky personality.
I think, in a way, Haytham may have been proud of Connor - he became an outstanding Assassin and was even better than Haytham. I think he was just disappointed that Connor didn't have the same views, so they couldn't work side by side.
I really like the dramatic lighting in this piece. Is that a smile on Haytham's face or am I imagining it? it may just be shadow on the mouth...

What sucks even worse is that if you read "Assassin's Creed Forsaken.." oh man it's just the more sadder fate ;^; Because you grow attached to Haytham

Other than the composition... not really. This was an outlet piece, but as I've said, I cried more over what I didn't have with my brother and you can only shed so many tears over the what-ifs.

Oh shit, I haven't got that far in the game yet (just killed Benjamin Church) but kinda had a feeling it would happen. :'c Damn, really not looking forward to it now.
Sorry to hear about your brother too. My condolences. I know how that feels about not getting along all too well.

I really dig the dramatic lighting here, especially how you can't see Haytham's eyes. c:

WOMAN I WARNED YOU.

Yeeeah. It's that looming Will, not an If, though a huge part of me was really hoping Haytham would pull a John Silver like in Treasure Planet and just slip out of the Templar Order/Connor's mission, but he's WAY too hardheaded and steeped in his own agenda to make that kind of compromise for Connor.

Thank ~Res-Gestae for that. They eyes were giving me a ton of trouble and she suggested shadows instead. I liked the dramatic look it gave him and just carried it from there. XD

This was one of the bigger moments for me in the game.
I wanted to look for some kind of redemption in either of the characters. But ultimately, a big part of me knew that this was the only way it could have ended.

Same. Honestly, I found most of the story somewhat lackluster, but the entire relationship between Connor and Haytham redeemed it for me.

Oh, to have that scene be projected on to you in such a personal level, I'm sorry for your loss. But I admire how you're able to represent your feelings through these characters which just gives it a deeper level, and it makes the audience at least understand the pain and sadness as we are also attached to Haytham and Connor.

It's really made me read these two so much better. Thank you ;u;

Thanks.

I'm glad I caused some introspection with this. Huge compliment to know I made people stop and think for a moment. Sadly, I think because Connor isn't as openly passionate as Ezio was or as verbos as Haytham, people don't really think he's that deep of a character and brush him off. :c

thunderjelly In reply to o-rlyization [2013-01-04 04:31:33 +0000 UTC]

The first impression of Connor is that he's the stoic type, and it's foolish that people find him boring because it's rather close to Altair's character. I think it's because that Ubisoft has made the fans invest into Ezio so much-- him getting all these game-- that we've subconsciously expected a certain level of, idk, a sociable personality?

I will argue to the end of the world to say that Connor has the more tragic story than Ezio, because from what the game story and the novel has shown us, it doesn't look like Connor will get a happy ending as Ezio (and Altair to some extent).

Phew, yeah, that's my feelings about Connor's character in a nutshell uwu

o-rlyization In reply to thunderjelly [2013-01-04 18:41:38 +0000 UTC]

I know! Mind you, we got to see Altair warm up and become wiser via Ezio, but you're right--it seems stupid to call Connor bland when he's so much like Altair. If anything, he's a bit more passionate than Altair since he's very vocal that he fights for his village and revenge against his perceived antagonist.

I've yet to read the novel (oh god I want to though I have no doubt I'm setting myself up for feels) but I agree: Connor has it rough. Not to say Ezio's life didn't at various times, but...
- Connor sees his mom die at 10 (WHAT? HE WAS 4? UBISOFT WERE YOU NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO DATES?)
- Leaves behind all he's known to seek a path he thinks will save his village, only to find out everyone has left anyway at the end of it all so everything he did to protect it was for nothing
- The second closest person to him dies, leaving him without guidance for what's coming, nor anyone he can turn to
- Is betrayed by George Washington--who he freaking LOOKS UP TO.
- Kills his best friend who dies hating him, thinking he had been working against his own tribe
- Kills his own father after getting to know him (because killing him would be bad, but after getting to know him? Sure, play my heart strings like a violin, Ubisoft. I don't mind.)
- And most of all, he fights for a cause he thinks is just but is neither thanked nor rewarded for his pivotal role in various battles or his personal sacrifices. It'd be one thing to have the war lost and his village pay the price, but they WIN and Connor ends up losing. He unknowingly sets his village up on the chopping block. I just---can't even. I can't.

Out of all of this... I could say Connor was at his happiest at the beginning and maybe at the Homestead wedding, but that aside he just doesn't catch a break. Maybe he's closer with the Recruits than we've been shown (oh god please let them be buddies so Connor have someone to rely on) but his life just /sucks./

/rant

Oh, and I came across a gif the other day of Achilles saying "There are no happy endings." OLD MAN, Y U GOTTA PREDICT SUCH HORRIBLE THINGS ;____;
