For one of my classes, I had to take a really well known story (with no copyright restrictions), twist it into my own story, and then illustrate one page spread that would appear in it.The story I chose was Rapunzel. My idea was that in addition to growing really long hair, Rapunzel also grows super humungous, and rather than being kept in a tower, IS the tower. For fear of knocking down trees, squishing animals, etc, she is sentenced to stand still forever... Her legs are like the color of tree trunks, keeping her camouflaged in the forest... No one even knows that she exists, except, of course, for the witch. :[
I'm still working on the text to put in this page spread, but once I have it written, I plan on putting it right under the moon.

This is beautiful! I love the color palette--the vague threatening feeling of the sky, the cheerful light under the trees... And I like how the forms of the witch and the birds stand out so sharply.
Is this done in watercolor?

Why is this in a writing group? Shouldn't it be in a visual art group?

I'm not sure. The group sent me a request asking to submit this to their "Storybook Illustration" folder. There's only one other image in the folder, which makes me think it's probably been recently created.
Some day I do plan on adding writing to this image. I've just yet to get to it. But yeah, I thought I'd still accept the request. I'd understand, though, if the group changed its mind and took it out. It's a visual piece, not a writing piece, after all.

Interesting twist! Great ideas! I think the illustration turned out nice too. I like the hem of the dress becoming the color of the trees. The text would fit just right under the Moon. This could be a nice addition to the other versions of Rapunzel.
