Very nice photography. And lovely wire wrapping. I really like the technique you used - it's one of my favorite, and it's such a versatile technique as well as an easier one than the usual figure 8.

where is that 'black ice'?

A photography technique, where you use a reflecting black background. I think it looks very pretty, but it's hard to find the right angle, get the colors right etc.

isn't that just black plexiglas?

I actually used a make-up case. But yes, black plexiglas would be perfect.

well, I don't see any difficulty here and calling that 'black ice' is... funny. Oridinary photo I'd say, not very good for selling jewelery [too destracting for customers]. Why don't you just use the black plexi then?

The pendant is for sure more interesting that the photo

I don't use it because I don't have it. I read a tutorial for jewelry photography, and they called it 'black ice' there. Which is why I call it that way. It doesn't sound difficult, and I didn't think it would be that problematic either. But I had a problem with other things being reflected on the surface. I took a look at your gallery, and in this picture [link] you see a reflection of the window. Well that's what happened to me the first times I tried. The earrings are gorgeous, by the way.

Why do you think it's not a good photo? Of course the pendant is much more important than the way it is photographed, but I do want to improve my jewelry photography, so some feedback would definitely be welcome.

Oh, and about that earrings - that's one of the worse jewelery photos I did Because of shity background. But I was in hurry, so used a glass table - that's why reflections dosn't work in general for jewelery.

Well, if you'd like to hear my advice: pendant is nice, but the angle of that photo dosn't show it. It should be taken more from above.

I don't see why reflections suppose to be good for jewelery photos [I make and sell via internet jewelery for over 5 years]. Reflections confuses customer, espetially while looking at a miniature pic. And really - that dosn't look good.
Try neutral background - like a paper or smooth fabric. Most important thins is good, soft light. Feel free to take a look at my jewelery photos - I've traveled a long way to understand how jewelery should be shown to customers Of course mines are not perfect, but they're good
good luck

I see. Thanks. The look I was going for was something like this [link] , by the way. Do you think that's a good picture, or do you think it's just a bad technique?

Let me put it this way: looking at that picture, do you know how the necklace looks like? No. Would you by it? I don't think so. So does it works?
Necklace itself if awesome, ofourse, but in my opinion the photo is just piontless and kills it.

Okay. I think it's a very interesting photo, that draws your eyes to it. As long as you upload other pictures featuring other angles (the front being the most important) to your store, I think it works fine.
But to each their own opinion, right?

You've asked about that particular photo - not about additional ones.
I see difference between art photography and sell/show photography. In my opinion combining that two is a missunderstanding. You've asked - I've been answered.
