Description Everyone loves labradorite, right? It's definitely one of my favorite stones. And this one is especially gorgeous, with the golden flash and the little bit of blue at the top.

I wrapped it in copper wire, as you can see. For the first time I flattened some of my wire. For that I used the tip in ~IMNIUM 's journal: you don't need an anvil, just hammer on top of another tool. She suggested another hammer, I used some heavy duty pliers. It worked. (The journal is also in my favorites, under 'awesome tutorials' if you're looking for it.)

On the right the flat wire crosses beneath the two wires next to it and up again. I think it gives a more organic, natural look to it.
Oh and did I mention that it's huge? 6.7 cm high, or 2.6 inches.

Despite years of watching What Not to Wear, I don't consider metallics to be neutrals, and all too often I see jewelers and artists putting together combinations that just aren't quite perfect.  Somehow, you made a non-blue Labradorite work with copper (IMO).  This is beautiful!

I've been wanting to try my hand at wirework.  What gauges did you use?  I'm going to check out that that blog you linked (when it's not six in the morning).  Learning is fun!

I agree, you have to find a good match between the metal and the stone. I personally think the more blue/green labradorites work great with silver, but because of the warm yellow flash of this one I decided to go with copper.

I'm actually not completely sure what gauges I used. For starters, I work in millimeters, nog gauges, because that's how wire is sold here in the Netherlands and also in Israel (where I bought my first copper wire). This is probably 0.7 millimeters and 0.2 millimeters, but again, I'm not entirely sure. Just make sure you have some wire that is a bit thicker and some that is really thin and flexible. If you want to learn some beginner projects, just search for 'wire wrapping tutorial' here on DA and you'll find a goldmine

That's how I learned it!

oohh, I like! If you look at it without really focusing on it, it kinda looks like someone zoomed in on and blurred a picture of grass or leaves with the sky showing a little.
