I fell that the spell have more then just one use, maybe it stop not only discord, maybe any pony other then element bearer and Spike will get a nasty surprise while trying to steal it.

True. About the only pony besides Twilight we have seen there to read was Rainbow Dash, and for all we know she was borrowing from Twilight's personal collection and just hanging out.
