I think the colors are fairly balanced (and maybe that's the problem? I didn't limit the pallette enough?) so at least it doesn't clash, but something still feels off to me. Possibly with shadows and warm and cool colors...

The only thing that looks that off to me is the contrast between the dark and the light parts. Maybe finding a better balance between them would make it look better. Also like you said maybe a more limited palette would improve things. This is all speculation and in no way comes from experience with coloring anything good, so you know, take it however you want.

That might be it. Value control is also something I'm working on (and why I do so much in charcoal) and this was a rushed pencil sketch. If I'd taken my time on it, some of the outlines would go away and some of the edges on her ear and leg would disappear into the highlight altogether...
I should know better than to try pushing to the next step without taking care of the basics first...
