There should be more effective ways to hunt whales so that they don't die in pain!
What about cows? Do you think that cows are wonderful creatures too?

I agree with the stamp and I love what all the Sea Shepards are doing and its even better now that they have 2 boats (they had 3 but one got destroyed)

I would only eat whale if I had gone out in a longboat and killed it myself, or an eskimo had done it for me.

I have always wondered what would happen if someone payed off a whaler to take a hidden camera on board. I have heard whalers do not make much, so it could work with the right person.

I'm in Japan now and I saw a restaurant that was selling whale. I then loudly yelled to my parents, "They have scientific whale here!"

We were gonna put up a sign that said "Stop whaling" or "Whales are friends, not food", but we didn't and now I feel bad.

I also made a joke about scientifc dolphins that my mother thought was serious. You should've seen her face.

I can't remember.

I think it was something like...
Me: And there's scientific dolphin, too!
Mum: They eat dolphin?!
Me: ...No.

It was funnier if you were there...
And it needs context which I can't remember. Yeah.

I'm against whaling because there are only a few whales left in the sea. If whaling keeps up, there won't be any whale left soon.

And who says that the japanese can decide or the whale should be erased from our world? The whales belong to all of us! AND THATS WHY ALL OF US HAVE TO DECIDE OR THE WHALE SHOULD BE EXTINCED OR NOT!! Not only those selfish japanese! Those Japanse whalers only think about money! They are selfish, cold and brute!
Not all Japanese are like that. Lots of Japanese are against whaling, but the selfish heartless part of japan doesn't listen to them!

Seeing these beautiful creatures getting killed makes me want to cry. Even though I like anime and Japanese video games, Japan is not the place I would live. Their government sucks and they hide horrible things like whaling to the citizens. I've now working on a paper about this and I get angrier and angrier at Japan.

I am Japanese and the thing I don't understand is that we have a tons of good foods, and why we still want to eat whales? I never had the chance to eat whales but I often read that it doesn't taste so good. After the WW2, whales were served for lunch at school, and every children (so people who become our parents now) thought it was aweful.

I guess a lot of Japanese people don't regret at all to could not eat whales anymore. They know what to do with their culture themselves, and they don't need outside people telling them how they should live (especially when it comes from US).

Japan has it's own culture and traditions. The Japanese people don't need a bunch of Green Peace Gaijins telling them how to live.

The Sea Shepherds are bunch of low class wannabe pirates. The Japanese navy should sink that carbon spewing rust bucket that's named after Steve Irwin.

I ♥ Whale Bacon

chrissyandtaru1 In reply to Art-Terrorist [2010-03-01 01:31:08 +0000 UTC]

they are not telling them how to live they are just telling them not to kill off the largest animal on the face of the earth. do u think it is a good idea to kill off the largest thing on this earth that has a more important place on this earth than we do?

Sea Shepherd is a noble organization that dose use an old boat but that is because they cant afford a new boat unlike the whalers that have millions of dollars that they have from killing endangered animals. the Steve Irwin might spew a bit of carbon from the ship but at least they are not chumming up the water with whale blood, organs, and more carbon than the Steve Irwin dose.

Whaling was introduced into Japan by the Americans in WWII when they were starving. They supplied all the fleets, the know how etc. The argument that whaling is a traditional activity in modern Japan is a myth.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Voi-Asino In reply to obsidianstamps [2011-01-23 23:32:08 +0000 UTC]

That's not true. Whaling existed in Japan long before the US even existed. Whales were hunted, in relatively small numbers by Japan until the nineteenth century. It was never very common, and hardly a deep-rooted part of Japanese culture, but it did exist before WWII.

Japan did see a resurgence of whaling in Japan did coincide with the Second world war, when the need for an efficient source off protein was necessary, and it certainly saw more whaling than any previous point in Japanese history, but it certainly was not the first time whales were killed there.

So yah, the Japanese government seriously over embellishes their ancient whaling culture, but it is false that it never existed.

I am both pro-Greenpeace and pro-Sea Shepards, the groups fill both radical and conservative protests against this horrifying act. Making profit from killing whales is the very definition of whaling, and the Japanese manage to pass of mass slaughter as reasearch every year, killing in a whale SANCTUARY, no less. Sets my blood straight to a boil, it does.

I couldn't agree more, I really love Japan and most of Japans culture but it makes me so sad to see what they are doing to our oceans and mostly to our whales and dolphins.

Yes I am Japanese, I went there last year for a month to visit my uncle Isowasan, and aunt Miharu. Not once did I even think about eating Whale meat, the moment I saw the Whaling boats at the dock (My relatives live near the ocean) I wanted to kill the Whalers and blow up their ships. As brutal as it sounds, Japanese Whalers are a disgrace to Japan. There are Japanese Anti-Whalers like me as well... I hope they shut Whaling down forever!

STOP. WHALING.

I think this might make the people who love Japan and really wanna visit it someday have a second thought too. XDD I know a lot of people like that, they think Japan/Japanese stuff/plain Japanese is the best.

HereticWings [2009-06-13 17:13:26 +0000 UTC]

It's impossible to humanely kill a whale, that's why whaling can't be compared to other forms of animal slaughter.
This is a great stamp. Someone should hand them out at anime conventions.

Very well said, especially that Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd need to get over their differences: there's plenty more they could do if they stopped arguing and started working together. Their anger towards each other could be turned into passion for the whales, and end up saving a lot more whales if they coordinated their efforts together.

It makes me sad that Japan are going to bully and blackmail the IWC into allowing them to commercially hunt again around their costal waters.
