...While it can... certainly be interpreted that way, I choose to believe that Edgar was merely concerned about a child marching off to battle, and hoping that she manages to survive long enough to reach adulthood.

I interpreted what Edgar what Edgar was doing in three ways:
1. Hells bells a child is going into combat.
2. He hits on everyΒ girl, it's a thing. It would be impolite for him notΒ too.
3. Hmm... normally I hit on every girl when I meet them, but some really bad stuff just went down.
Β Β Would hitting on her diffuse some of the tension, or just make things worse? Better check her age...

If I recall correctly, she was suppose to swear like a sailor in the original Japanese version.Β If she had done that in the American version I would have really loved her.Β But in the end I thought of her more as a mascot than Mog, which is really saying something.Β Since her personality was so watered down in the American release, I never really got any personality from her, and thus, never came to have any kind of opinion on her.Β Only time I used her was in the assault on Kekfa's tower.

I imagine everyone is always laughing awkwardly and pushing Edgar behind them like: "OOOOkay, we'll do the talking now, Edgar.Β Thank, your highness!"Β Then they lean down and whisper "He won't actually try to have sex with you, he just has a weird image to keep up."Β Should Edgar's ability have been "Sexing" instead?Β I assume it forces monsters to run away.
Relm was always an interesting one that might have had a useful ability if you had run in to it earlier in the game.Β By the time you reach her to use, you use her because she's there, and she's fun, but I never felt the need to bring her along on my usual party.Β She does make for an interesting matchup with all the kooks, though.Β Like putting her in a party with Gau, Gogo, and Umaro.Β Gau goes crazy and mimics a monster, Gogo mimics whatever anyone else is doing, Relm PAINTS a monster and uses their abilities as well, and Umaro literally goes apeshit and attacks wildly while throwing party members.Β Monsters won't have any idea what the hell is going on.

I think the "Here's hoping you're still around in 8 years" is less creepy child molester and more "I really hope you don't die in our big bad war against the Empire because you're a goddamn 10-year old fighting against world-ending forces."
Also weird is the fact that the 10-year old girl has more magical power than the being half-made of magic.

That's a little suspect with him saying she's 'not a lady yet' right before that line, which is in all the translations and not just Woolsey being a wacko. Plus promising to marry children in Figaro doesn't help. I've seen that behavior from these lech characters back in this time period so it's not that surprising (Which is a sentence I unfortunately have to type). The intended purpose isn't even to be creepy, it's to make him look more 'noble' like he has standards since he usually hits on anything that moves. The fact that he'll wait 8 years after she's 10 proves he's NOT a pedophile; same with the Figaro girl. But of course the line is way more creepy than the intended purpose, as we all know.
She's just as impressive as the little girl that came before her with the strength of an ox... or the strength of a Galuf, depending on how you leveled him!

Actually, based on the original script, Edgar's shameless flirting and promises to marry the little girls are his way of having fun and relaxing from being both a monarch and an exceedingly intelligent engineer. Everyone in Figaro know's he japing since he hits on *every* woman, old young, pretty, ugly, don't matter.
