Description I've been working on a Stellaris setting for a little while now, and felt like commissioning artwork for the poor forgotten soldiers that no one in Stellaris really cares about. Seriously paradox, I get ground combat isn't all that important, but could we at least get some minor tweaks?

In the year 2547, the galaxy is dominated by two superpowers: an alliance of interstellar nations known as the Second League, and the Commonwealth of Man, a xenophobic dictatorship that believes it is the manifest destiny of humankind to conquer the galaxy. These two juggernauts have been locked in a cold war since the defeat of the Prethoryn Scourge in 2523, and now tensions have finally reached a boiling point. As refugees fleeing the Commonwealth spread stories of genocides and strange warships, the Second League has declared war on their longtime enemy.

For the soldiers of the United Nations of Earth, this war was a long time coming. For three hundred years they had watched in horror as their cousins conquered and enslaved much of the galaxy, fighting only small scale interventions and wars of liberation. Now, at long last, it is time to bring the Commonwealth to justice. Over the past decade, the Second League and its member states underwent a massive overhaul of their military forces in anticipation of this conflict. This is the standard equipment of a soldier of the United Nations Expeditionary Army (UNEA).

Type 12 Power Armor "Guan Yu"-

The surprise winner of a military design contest for a new power armor unit, the Guan Yu beat the Odin model line that had been the mainstay of the UNEA for nearly a century. While the Odin was superior in both protection and wearer enhancement, it's extreme expense made it impractical for use as the main armor of the entire UNEA. The Type 12, while not as powerful, was chosen do to a high degree of modularity, allowing it to be customized and specialized for any mission requirements, as well as the wearer's personal preferences. By default, the armor enhances the wearers physical abilities by a factor of three, provides total protection against all environmental hazards, contains a non-sentient AI assistant, HUD display, onboard medical systems, and sensor suites that include radar, motion trackers, low-light vision and infrared vision. While the armor lacks a personal energy shield, this is not considered a major loss by UNEF commanders, as their philosophy has alway been that power armor exists to protect the soldier in case they get hit, not to turn them into a walking tank.

Modifications for the Type 12 include specilized environmental equipment, specialized sensory suites, advanced communications and jamming equipment, enhanced physical augmentation systems, grappling hook launchers, stealth field generators, holographic decoy projectors, jump jets and maneuver thrusters, extra cargo capacity, and retratable wrist blades.

HK497 Assault Rifle-

A weapon that seemed almost too good to be true to the officers overseeing its trials. With a large magazine, excellent acuracy, and high rate of fire, the HK497 is a near perfect infantry rifle. This railgun was met with great skepticism by many soldiers upon its adoption, but this was soon quashed after combat exercises where soldiers wielding the HK497 were able to outperform their counterparts who were armed with the previous M208 Rifle. Interviews with soldiers after the exercise revealed that the weapon had lived up to the promises of its builders.

The inclusion of anti-armor rounds confuses many new recruits, as they assume that all rounds would be armor piercing do to the prevelance of power armor on the modern battlefield. However, not every race has the same view on power armor. While the UN's military doctrine views power armor as existing just in case the user gets hit, other militaries follow the walking tank philosophy. AP ammo exists to counter these more heavily armored foes, and can even penetrate some lightly armored vehicles

14M178M Rocket Launcher-

A rocket launcher lovingly nicknamed "Tunguska" by its users do to both its Russian origin, and the manufacturer's claim that it could be dropped from low orbit without any transit equippment and remain operational. While this claim has never officially been tested, the 14M178M's reliability and durability are unquestionable. There have been few reports of misfires or malfunctions since it entered service, and some anti-armor troopers claim that it has knocked out more tanks than their own armored support.

B1529 Pistol-

A compact weapon that packs an impressive punch for its size. The B1529 owes it's impressive firepower to the fact that it is a coil gun, rather than a rail gun. While most militaries that use kinetic ammunition prefer rail guns, this is due to their ease of maintenance. Coil guns possess more firepower, but are more expensive to produce and difficult to maintain. The fact that the B1529 was adopted as the standard pistol of the United Nations military is a testament to its revolutionary design.

M33 Combat Knife-

The idea that knives are still used in the age of power armor and orbital bombardments seems ridiculous to many civilians, and even a few new recruits. However, the modern M33 is not some simple piece of sharpened steel. It is a high frequency blade of durasteel, forged in zero gravity. If the wielder can close to striking range, the M33 will make short work of most armors.

M42 Frag Grenade-

A particularly nasty grenade. Not only can the initial explosion prove fatal to even power armored combatants, killing the soldier inside their armor through heat and concussive force, but the M42 also releases hundreds of superheated fragments, potentially maiming any struck with the weapon. The device was nearly made illegal as a violation of the Geneva Conventions, 2nd Legue Articles of Moral Warfare, and Rorken Laws of Just Combat.

M37 Smoke Grenade-

While labelled as a smoke grenade, it would be more accurate to describe the M37 as a chaff grenade, as the cloud it produces also contains particles meant to confuse and jam the scanners on enemy power armor.

M50 Explosive-

An explosive primarily used for breaching and demolition work. The M50 has an adjustable power setting, allowing its blast to be tailored to the needs of its user at that moment.
