Well the grand prize winners got a signed Sonic CD sountrack, I was in just the regular winners which is only the SCD re-release. Oh well!

That's good! The soundtrack re-release has a number of annoying flaws, while the game re-release is mostly improved with the debatable exception of removing vocals from a couple of tracks.

Really? Is this only in-game? Because I recently bought the soundtrack and it sounds the same as the originals but higher quality.

Vocals are only gone from the opening and closing tracks in the game re-release, apparently. As for the flaws in the soundtrack, I forget the specifics or where I read about it, something to do with the looping or fading out or mastering being awful. Maybe all three!
This is all just stuff I've read, though! Having experienced none of it first-hand, I'm probably just super wrong.
