Description First appearance: Pikmin (2001)

Emperor Bulblax from the ”Pikmin” series. It is a large species of the Grub-dog family (that contains all of the common Bulborb enemies), and a gluttonous beast that devours anything it get over, with the help of its massive purple tongue. Thanks to its moss-like hide and ability to bury itself into the ground, the Emperor Bulblax blends in with its environment in order to catch its unsuspecting prey.
Several members of the species has been encountered throughout the series, with the very first encounter being in the first ”Pikmin” game. There, an Emperor Bulblax appears as the final boss of the game, having swallowed Captain Olimar’s valued Secret Safe, the final part needed to repair his spaceship. With the help of his trusted Pikmins, Olimar must defeat this omnipotent omnivore in order to leave the planet and get home.

Emperor Bulblax is truly a very formidable boss in Pikmin as he is really tough to beat if you dont use the trick of stunning him with bomb rocks, plus with his body being too bouncy for pikmin to grab on to his only weakpoint is his face which is very risky cause of this gargantuan predator's long sticky tongue, and the fight only get's worse when he reaches half health now gaining the ability to jump very high into the air in an attempt to crush any unfortunate pikmin below him

To be honest, I have never fought him myself, only watched others doing it. But you seem to know your strategy, so may I ask, have you managed to beat Emperor Bulblax?

yea i have and he is easier to deal with if you manage to stun him with bomb rocks by having him either eating it or have the yellow throw the rock into his mouth. Having a yellow throw the bomb into his mouth does keep him stunned for longer so u can keep pelting him with red's but make sure to whistle them back when he get's up.

and like i mentioned his fight does get tricky when he's at half health where he will start to jump up high in an attempt to crush you so you'll have to pay attention to his mouth to see if he's drooling or not, if you see drool he's gonna use his tongue but if there isnt any then he's gonna use the pounce

in fact while he is the final boss of Pikmin 1 you don't actually need to fight him since the final part he has is actually 1 of 5 parts that are completely optional....but if u want to see the true ending then you'll have to get the 4 optional parts and then fight emperor bulblax

Good thing the fight is optional, then  At least they made Emperor Bulblax easier in the second game

yea but he's only fought if you collect the 29 ship parts, 25 are mandatory for Olimar to escape earth once day 30 ends while only 5 are optional to get and those are: the nova blaster, space float, massage machine, UV lamp and the secret safe (Emperor Bulblax is the one holding the safe cause somehow he ate it)

really in Pikmin micro-management is key to getting as much progress done in a day

and if you think this guy is hard....trust me the optional boss fight with the Smokey Progg in the distant spring is a lot more difficult

Yeah... while I've never fought it myself, I've seen gameplay of the Smoky Progg. And it seems really hard indeed. You have any good tactics for defeating that creature?

But thing is the smoky progg is found in the distant spring, to get there at least 12 parts must be collected and this is one of the more difficult area's in pikmin as many of the parts in the area require blue pikmin to get: massage machine, zirconium rotor, gluon drive, repair-type bolt, interstellar radio, #2 ionium jet and the chronos reactor (the reactor does also need yellow's to reach since it's on a high ledge so there's both a gold and lapis lazuli candypop bud nearby to change blue's into yellow's and vice versa)

the only parts in the distant spring that dont require blue's to collect are the UV lamp, bowsprit and pilots seat

but there are also Bulbear's everywhere, in pikmin 1 all they where is just a stronger version of the bulborb, then you got the swooping snitchbug who is a real nuisance, yellow wollywog's, shearwig's, puffy blowhog's (yet another nuisance and one contains the radio), water dumple's (aquatic bulborb's and they can be a bit of a pain) and then you have an Armored Cannon Beetle

best tactic ik if 1st run up to the egg as only olimar and then run back to base and get out 100 red's, when this toxic frog thing get's near an onion it will roar and it will auto pluck any pikmin and he wont move for a while, while he stands there after roaring start throwing your red's at the face (the back on this creature is an instant death to the pikmin because of the poison) and since the Smoky Progg has 4000 health this is a long battle so expect to lose some red's during this fight.

BUT if you do manage to kill it then your rewarded with a gold pearl for your troubles which grants 100 pikmin to any of the 3 colors (this is the most amount from any enemy as the 2nd highest is 50 via the cannon beetle & pearly clamclamp while 3rd highest is 30 from the puffstool) , do keep in mind that this thing can only be fought in the Distant Spring before Day 15 as after day 15 the egg will despawn
