Question, as this is based on the Confederate Flag, I have to ask: What exactly about the Confederacy was Nationalist?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OddGarfield In reply to GennadyKalugina [2017-08-15 12:43:24 +0000 UTC]

Regarding the Confederacy, the Nationalist ideals that it held were based off of the Christian Conservative and or Libertarian cultural background of the individual Southern's that were apart of the 11 States that made up the Confederacy as a whole vs the modernizing unregulated Capitalist North that was quite on the Left side of politics for that period in history.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GennadyKalugina In reply to OddGarfield [2017-08-15 17:25:38 +0000 UTC]

But the South followed the Jeffersonian ideas, and that included low to no Tariffs and decentralized government, in fact studying the South it seems to me that most Southerners weren't nationalist, but Statist, they would side with their individual states over a National Government.Β
And Christianity isn't nationalist, we're supposed to spread it to everyone and be loyal to Christ over loyalty to any state or government.Β

Also, the Jeffersonian Ideas that the South favored didn't include regulating Capitalism or the free Markets, while the North used more Eminent domain other regulations. Libertarian/Classical Liberal = Free market Capitalist.Β

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

BattleofHastings In reply to GennadyKalugina [2017-08-17 23:54:30 +0000 UTC]

It was nationalist in the fact that the ideals of the CSA: small government, states rights, etc., were inherent in the agrarian Dixie culture. They had capitalist Libertarian ideals but economically the south wasn't able to compete with the north due to high tariffs in southern ports placed by northern states (IE: low to no tariff ideal), blocking the road to capitalism and industry. Tariffs are part of the system of protectionism not free trade. Jeffersonian ideals are Libertarian Ideals.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GennadyKalugina In reply to BattleofHastings [2017-08-18 00:29:24 +0000 UTC]

But those ideas were in their culture, but that doesn't make it nationalist as Nationalism is more a love and devotion to a government rather than culture. While the South was more dedicated to particular ideas and divided governments.

Exactly, the North's Tariffs were definitelyΒ protectionism and a more nationalist in an attempt to force the South to buy northern goods and wield Central government power over the individual states, which makes me think the North was more Nationalistic since it was the one trying to create a strong central government and national identity.Β

BattleofHastings In reply to GennadyKalugina [2017-08-18 03:56:41 +0000 UTC]

Nationalism is intertwined with culture. For example: Greece. For centuries after the fall of the Byzantine Empire the Greeks longed for their own nation. A nation first and foremost a Greek state. Their culture unified them into a movement. A nationalistic movement. This is a byproduct of human tribalism. Cultures create movements to unify members of their culture together in a single nation. These movements usually form while under oppression, however mild from the central government overseeing them. IE: Northern States crushing southern industry and trade led to the unification of Dixies against the Yankees and led to the American Civil War. A war not for the institution of slavery, but for the creation of a nation for the Dixies, with Dixie ideals.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GennadyKalugina In reply to BattleofHastings [2017-08-18 05:26:42 +0000 UTC]

I believe when we think of Nationalism we're thinking of two different things. When I think of it I see the blind Nationalism of groups like the Nazis who created devotion to their state and worshiped it, I see things like the pledge of allegiance and belief that if the government does it, then it's automatically right. More of an authoritarian government that forces its beliefs on its people at gunpoint and through indoctrination.Β

Your definitionΒ is more akin to, if I am correct, simply a cultural unity and identity, where as the actual government is not necessarily a focus, and government coercion or lack thereof isn't the focus, it could be a minarchist or authoritarian but that's not the point since your definition isn't about the government type but the culture.Β

Am I right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BattleofHastings In reply to GennadyKalugina [2017-08-18 05:50:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes more or less.
My definition of Nationalism is:
1. Love of one's country
2. The desire for one's own country.
Nations are an extension of a cultural identity. Cultures all tend to have different general ideals. These differences can be mild or drastic, but they are there. Thus we see different types of government.Β

On the subject of Nazis and blind fanaticism: Fascism was born when socialist thinkers saw the love people had for their country, and then mixed it into their ideology.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GennadyKalugina In reply to BattleofHastings [2017-08-18 15:47:54 +0000 UTC]

Well that makes sense, I still don't completely agree that view is the best one, at least like all things some moderation should be exercised. But it makes a lot more sense and isn't as insane as what the other definition of nationalism is.Β

Thank you for the information.Β

Since I'm not American, I'm having a bit of difficulty comprehending the phrase "My Country, My Nation" since the two terms (country, nation) are similar in meaning. However, since the flag on the right represents the European heritage of White Americans, I guess the "My Nation" part represents the European Identity of America, am I right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OddGarfield In reply to jflores27 [2017-08-15 04:12:58 +0000 UTC]

You're party right, the heritage of Europe is held deeply in our nation but we do not hold our culture completely in our race.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

jflores27 In reply to OddGarfield [2017-08-15 09:38:24 +0000 UTC]

But in order for a group of people to maintain a shared collective identity, you need culture and traditions. I understand blood in important, but so is culture and heritage since you need some form of tradition that makes a group of people unique. It's why I'm an ethno-cultural nationalist since being a racial nationalist isn't enough to defend and promote the identity of my people. I strongly understand why in this harsh time the need to promote white nationalism is important for your people due to the increase of anti-white sentiments (thus leading to more radicalization of whites turning to "neo-nazis"), however this anti-white phenomenon isn't just a blatant attack on white people but white culture, white heritage and white history as well.

I know that the alt-lite cucks keep talking about "protecting western liberal values", however those same exact values are responsible for creating the modern left. It's why I strongly dislike the alt-lite because they don't actually care about their white european blood, their culture and their traditions.

I think there's more to it than that. I am generally just a Constitutional Conservative, however I look at Europe being replaced by Muslims... and I look for solutions and in my anger the easiest solution I find is genocide on the scale of the Soviet Union, which obviously isn't an option. The Alt-Lite just puts policy before European Culture.
