I might actually have to get my license soon... and maybe a car... my boyfriend is going to go to a pilot school in Virginia and he doesn't even have a driver's permit... unlike how things are now (he's living in my home town) the two of us will be unable to easily see each other with this change, even though I'm in Maryland and he's in NJ...

You're not the only one. I keep promising my brother that I'll go for mine - but it's just so much hassle! We have to do 120 hours supervised driving before we're allowed to go solo, 20 of which has to be at night. This is impossible to do when you don't have a car and ready access to a fully licensed driver.

I've got a permit, and in New Jersey you only need something like 6 hours to get your license. of course, I MIGHT have 20 minutes behind the wheel. that may be an exaggeration though
