Description My first attempt at creating a scalemail dice bag. As far as I'm concerned, this was a huge success-virtually all of the design ideas I had worked perfectly. I also proud of the fact that, as far as I know, this piece is 100% original. Not only have I never seen another scalemail dice bag before, but many aspects of the design-such as how I incorporated scales into the E 4-1 chainmail weave, or how I made the bottom function-were my ideas. I'm sure someone has done this stuff before, but it is gratifying to know that I did something without any help.

The idea for this bag has been mulling around in my head for a few months now. I noticed how similar the ring pattern on the back of scalemail looked to E 4-1, and figured out that one could add in columns of rings to back up the scalemail with E 4-1. After that, I wondered if you could take this and make what would normally be a chainmail item out of it. I am very familiar with designs for dice bags, so it seemed a logical item to start with.

I think trying to incorporate scales into a Euro 4-1 would just about drive me crazy... Kudos to you on that one!

The easiest way i can explain it is treat the scale as the 1 with the 4 connected too it.

I usually make the patch of E 4-1 first, then incorporate the scales. As you can sort of see with the top scales, I link each scale to four rings. I don't exactly know how to describe it, but the scales are only attached to rings that lay in one direction of the grain, and each ring is only connected to one scale. I might make a tutorial for this eventually or something; I'm really bad at describing my precess.

The Ring Lord. It's a fantastic site for all things chainmail.

For a first attempt this is good, however, Scalemaille is pretty much 4-in-1 chainmaille only the middle link, is a scale. I've never seen a scalemaille dice bag before, and it's definitely a great concept. Maybe on your next one show fewer rings at the top, and figure out a cool way to make the scales at the bottom come together pointedly(?).

I know it is 4-1 with the scale as a link; my design spaced the scales out a bit further, and added them in on top of preexisting rings. It's sort of like Double Mail ( [link] ), with only about half of the second layer added in, and those as scales. Fewer rings at the top is something that I tried for, but with the current design it would be too rigid for the drawstring to work without them-That's something I plan on working on, though. The bottom is another area I hope to improve on. Thanks for the advice!
