Story

It felt good to be back competing, after War's problems with his jabs which caused him to miss most of the summer shows while various vets argued over who had signed what it was all now sorted out, he'd had a complete new course to cover him worldwide and he was good to go! To get both of them back in the swing of things Sue had entered him into the End of Summer show held by Rolling Hills Ranch on Hannah Winter's farm. To keep his lordship calm Peter had travelled with them to groom - the rest of the Pony Club kids were involved in school, but Peter who went to a slightly posher version had an extra week and his father, keen to get any start in the horse industry he could for his son had paid his ticket. Just as well thought Sue - War's habit of ONLY behaving if a youngster was present had been worked on over the summer and he was better at home, but it hadn't been tested in international competition.

Arriving a few days earlier to settle in all three of them had been impressed by the facilities and the friendliness of the staff. War took it all in his stride, you would never know he'd spent most of the summer doing local shows and training at home.

Day one dawned fine and clear, the veiws over the valley and mountains beyond were clear and sharp and such a contrast from their normal English countryside. War was as usual on his toes. Luckily dressage, their first event, was after the Draft Pull so Sue had plenty of time to settle him down. Peter worked on him in the morning and after a time in his box Sue mounted up and worked him in for his class, the details of the test sharp in her mind.

Unfortunately she was first to go, the steward on the gate nodded at her as the tannoy crackled into life announcing ' next competitor, Sue Breard riding her own Okarnill Wardance' carefully she entered the arena dead straight down the centre line, halting at X she bowed her head to the judge, looked up, met his frowning stare and nudged her horse into the first movement. War seemed happy to cooperate and moved forward fluidly with none of the resistance she'd felt at Snailsrawk's show. The summer's work had paid off, War felt much more supple and responsive and her riding had improved no end. His cadence was so much improved and as she turned him into the first half pass she felt him almost dance along, as they approached the far side of the arena the leaves from the autumn clad trees were falling, dancing in the breeze as her autumn coloured horse danced past them in his own rhythm.

I do, that and the occasional 'horse deals' and lots and lots of stored horse books which were for conformation for customising.

I'll have to check that book out!
