Description The Things I Do...Part 2Coloured Monochrome
David Hockney is arguably the greatest British artist alive today. http://www.davidhockney.co/ He has an astonishing body of innovative, profound work created over the decades from the 1960s. While much of his time has been and is spent in California, he remains loyal to his roots in Yorkshire, England, and many of his famous works depict rural scenes in that county. There is in the town of Saltaire, Shipley, near Bradford a permanent display of many of his works in a Gallery sited in Salts Mill http://www.saltsmill.org.uk/, one of the finest and most famous of the former  Yorkshire woollen mills. I was lucky enough to be able to visit the Gallery recently with my friend, Richard :devrichardwakefield:, and thanks to the generosity of the gallery was able to take some photographs of the Hockney display.
Unfortunately, I was under attack by a particularly vicious and persistent rhinovirus at the time, a man-cold of epic proportions that caused a hiatus

Love the gray against the color splashes of art on the sides. Almost looks like you did it in editing.

That is what I did, Sheri - The idea was to highlight the colour against the monochrome of the room. I used a little known feature of Silver Efex Pro to do it.

Many Thanks.

Thank you very much, Goodwin. I've grown to appreciate Hockney's work, and his views on art history. I don't agree with them all, but compared to most artists today he does have a very profound knowledge of art and its histories.

Cheers

David

This is about 1/2 of the area of the third floor of the five floor mill. Fortunately, there are only the Hockney prints here so that one can study them at leisure.

Many Thanks, Linda

This mill is huge, Linda - it was the first woollen mill to have all stages of the process under one roof. So, raw wool straight from the sheep came in one end and woollen garments came out the other. Hitherto, the different stages of production were done on different sites: washing and cleaning; spinning, weaving, assembly were all done in different paces.

Great rendition , composition would have been better without me in it . Alas, beggars can't be choosers !

The Coloroud Monichrome works well here especially as the original was shot in a very poor light environment

Well, your presence Richard adds to the depth - giving a scaling factor! The monochrome/colour effect does come across here. It is a bit more and a bit different from colour splash photography.

Many Thanks.
