Description The coast of East Anglia around Southwold has mile upon mile of unspoilt beaches that, although subject to continuous large scale erosion, provide havens for wildlife, walks aplenty, and opportunities to capture and reflect upon time and tide.Β

This is a sad and poignant anniversary of an event that started 100 years ago. These poppies and the the title should give Β clues to those who do not know, but who would do well to remember.

Yes. Poppies. This is a gorgeous capture. And has really touched me to see.

Thank you, Linda. Yes, I found them very moving given the history of the region. Only a few yards from here there was a massive fortification, almost all of which is gone. So, this region saw some action in WW2, and the poppies are certainly not out of place.

cheers

It is a sad area in some ways, Linda, lonely, windswept, cold and harsh, particularly in winter. The skies are enormous, even inland as the land is so flat. I love it, but not everyone does.

Cheers

It makes me all the more happy to see life going on there, such beautiful life at that. I amΒ curious, were the poppies deliberately planted there, or was that nature at work? (do you know?) Would be amazing if it was nature!

Poppies like the ones shown in the image are wild flowers in the sense that you will see them in fields and hedge rows. But, they are a popular garden flower as well. Thus, the ones in the image could have come from a wild or a garden source. They will not have been planted there deliberately.Β

Thank you, Patricia. I think someone must have planted some poppies here long ago as an act of remembrance, and they have spread to give these occasional magnificent displays.

Cheers

Thank you, Penny. I do not know about education in your country, but the events of those years have faded from the history curriculum over here. Although, the media are running large features just now.

My grandfather enlisted in the U.S.Army when he was 16 years old. His family came from England, and he wanted to be part of the liberation. He was one of the newly formedΒ  American Expeditionary Force which was sent to England with the purpose of joining the Australians and Canadians to fight in France.Β  He fought in the battlefields of Flanders. And thankfully, he came home when it was over.

I'm very glad to hear it, Penny, that your grandfather survived. Sad and bad times.
