Rhino Ridge

Some Birds of South Africa Part 3On my recent vacation in KwaZulu Natal, one of the main provinces of the Republic of South Africa, I encountered some 50 different species of wild birds while travelling around  three main areas: Montusi Mountain Lodge in the northern Drakensbergs www.montusi.co.za/ ;  Moorcroft Manor at Himeville in the southern Drakensbergs www.moorcroft.co.za/; and around Rhino Ridge Lodge www.rhinoridge.co.za/ in the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Game Reserve in central KwaZulu Natal hluhluwegamereserve.com/.

My pleasure, David.

Yes, there are 11 species of barbets that are found in India.
In my gallery, you'll find two of them - blue throated and coppersmith barbet.

Wow, look at this pretty boy!   His colors are so unusual!   He looks like he could be a cross between a cardinal, a canary, and a downy woodpecker.  !!!

Okavanga In reply to LindArtz [2018-09-12 06:56:40 +0000 UTC]

Good points about colours and crosses, Linda. I wonder if there is any software that allows us users to design bird plumage? I bet we would not be able top match evolution.

Many Thanks

David
