Description Emus' Bush 'n Pelican CrossingDo you remember those awful "Compare and Contrast" questions you used to have to answer in school exams and tests (quizzes to our American friends)? Compare and contrast Plato's "The Republic" with "A Ticket to Ride" by the Beatles. Or, compare and contrast Goldilocks with Medusa. I could go on, but boy did I hate those. Naturally, when I became a lecturer at University, what did I do? Had loads of chemistry compare and contrasts in the exams that I set! C'est La Vie! So here is today's "Compare and Contrast" - emus with pelicans. Obvious pairing, I would have thought. Here's a free comparison - emus (Dromaius novaehollandiae) and pelicans (Pelecanus conspicillatus) are both birds - big ones at that. Here's a free contrast. While pelicans are found in lots of countries and continents, emus are found only in Australia. Let's have a closer look at some emus.
They are the second largest bird in the world, second only to ostriches to which they are distantly related. Like ostriches they arΒ Who's lookin' at you, kid?

Many Thanks

It always amazes me to learn the reason of evulation. Most probably it is for hunting better or attraction.
Most welcome

Difficult to know why this feature would be useful in hunting, but it may serve a function in identifying itself to others of the same species. There are several species world wide but I don't know if they all have this ring.
