My cat, Tom, and I would like to welcome you to some wild life work from around the area of my cottage in Auchencairn, Dumfries and Galloway. Tom, as some of you will know, is a constant source of advice and encouragement in my photography. His help includes meowing, scratching, and eating, often all at the same time, while advising on camera angles and exposure settings. He is extraordinarily accomplished with Adobe Lightroom, and with a dab of his paw on the keyboard can create images of outstanding creativity.

This feature is mainly about wild birds in the region, but here's a wee beastie to start off - a stoat. This was one of a family of four or five I came across early one morning. They were playing about on the rocks by the shore of Auchencairn Bay. Stoats are normally very secretive creatures, rarely seen, and almost never as a family group. They were too fast to capture as a group, but this wee fel.
