Specificity:
specially designed to work as a flagship of medium and large fleets, i.e. for wings or a complete Space Operation Command (SOC) in operation, rather rarely for a single squadron
became necessary because over time the number of capital ships involved in individual operations, e.g. the number of ships per fleet in a battle, exceeded the coordination capability of other ships
the Asgard-Class is therefore equipped with the most extensive and powerful sensors and computer systems, even surpassing the performance of the Ancient city ship Atlantis considering the huge difference
the Asgard-Class is used in all military operations involving at least one wing of a SOC
(40 or 44 capital ships with up to a maximum of 1750 space fighters, depending on SOC type.)
as a rule, these ships also serve as mobile HQs for the commanding generals of the SOCs and the Marine Operation Forces (MOF), as well as their staffs
in this way, the generals can personally inform themselves on the spot about their troops, some of which are distributed across several sectors
and yet, thanks to the powerful communication systems, they can fully dispose of the resources of their actual HQ + the resources of the flagship
however, the powerful sensors and computer systems of the Asgard-Class also make these ships an extremely powerful instrument for electronic reconnaissance, such as long-range reconnaissance in general and also space surveillance
originally planned as a cruiser, but both the USOC's top generals and the Union Council (Parliament) Defence Committee requested that the Asgard-Class be equipped with a full squadron of B-305 heavy bombers/escort ships
the B-305 was specifically designed to escort the Asgard-Class, but the flagships were originally intended to be equipped with only 2 to 4 escort ships, not 16
to make the hangars big enough for the B-305, the whole ship had to be planned bigger
although the number of hangars was increased to 4 instead of 2, the Asgard-Class now reaches battleship size
since the additional space could not be used for even more computers and sensors for technical reasons, a virtue was made of necessity and the Asgard-Class was also equipped like a battleship in terms of weaponry
however, the Asgard -Class was only equipped with short- and medium-range weapon systems, so it does not carry VLSs for any missile
nevertheless, in combination with the B-305 squadron, an Asgard-Class has sufficient firepower to defend against enemy ships even without further escort by allied capital ships
the flagships themselves sometimes serve as escorts for the Pendergast-class fleet carriers, almost always together with a Hammond-class battleship.
despite its impressive combat power, the Asgard-Class is usually accompanied by a cruiser and two or three destroyers when the Asgard-Class is not travelling within the fleet but has its own mission.
