however, this is more about the general characteristics of the Dakara-Class, which both SubClasses have in common

Dakara-Class ships have the powerful ion engines of the Tech Con Group, which are standard in the USOC.

these enable these ships, like their Alteran counterpart Atlantis, to land on a body of water of appropriate size and depth.

in addition, the ships of the city of Dakara have the HJE-1479 jump engines of the tribes of Kobol, which are built under licence by the IUSP

the jump engine serves as a secondary FTL engine in case of emergency, emergency does not refer to the ship alone, but should an allied distress call be received, the city ships use the jump engine to quickly reach the location of the distress call

in practice, the Cobolian engine serves as a replacement for the wormhole engine of the city ship Atlantis, which never functioned reliably, so that the Union never adopted the difficult design for series production

but since the HJE-1479 jump engine was actually developed for the much smaller Artemis-Class Battlestars, the range is severely limited in the case of the much larger and heavier Dakara-Class: a maximum of 10 ly per jump with a maximum of 500 jumps before the HJE-1479 has to be thoroughly overhauled

these are external high-power shield generators that support the raising of the actual shields

the dry docks, which are used in space for repairs of ships up to the size of a battleship, can also be used after landing in the water
