Description Those of you who are at all familiar with the history of the world or Ancient Egypt will recognize this as a sketch of the bust of Nefertiti. She was the wife of Akhenaten, with her name meaning "the beautiful one has come" and I think she truly is very beautiful. I was thumbing through a book looking for something to draw, and my eye fell on a photo of the sculpture. I simply had to draw it, knowing one of my friends would probably get a big kick out of it!

I simply LOVE this one. Studying Tell el Amarna and those who once inhabited it is one of my hobbies! I love the drawing. It's amazingly well done.

If you look at all of the ancient Egyptian sculpures of women they were all very beautiful. I believe Egyptian women of today are very pretty Very well drawn.

Whoa, that is so beautiful! Nefertiti always brings on fond memories of the book The Egypt Game.

Thank you! I tried to capture the hard edges of the sculpture's eyes.

I like how it is even more exaggerated than the sculpture, which is also exaggerated. her eyes, or eye are/is beautiful.

lol! I remember studying her.... Something about her being really weird or... something? I don't think we spent a lot of time on her, and just mentioned it in passing. Lovely sketch!

Um, her husband was "unorthodox" in the sense that he started a monotheistic religion, if that's what you mean. He worshipped the sun god.

Thank you!

midenian-lostie In reply to olde-fashioned [2008-08-16 14:47:50 +0000 UTC]

OH! That's it. The reason it was really weird because the Egyptians NEVER EVER change anything so people didn't really like him for changing the religion.

Yes, exactly. But weirdo husband or no, I think she's very interesting looking. Not a traditional beauty, but certainly a dignified one.

P.S. I didn't actually say anything about the drawing there, sorry- it's great! Excellent shape and shading, Personally I've always found profile's to be difficult. Well done!

Squibakou In reply to olde-fashioned [2008-08-19 21:38:54 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately, my teacher was crap and the course was awful and utterly dire, I would have liked the subject more if it was what it was suppossed to be and not just a gigantic waste of time. Bleh...

Still got an A in it anyway. Mwahahahaha.

Nefertiti!! God, I have just recently read that book, fantastic picture, was the picture in the book a drawing or a photo of the bust (*takes time to kill all immature people*)?

olde-fashioned In reply to Squibakou [2008-08-16 07:59:19 +0000 UTC]

It was a photograph in a book on the history of fashion.
