Description I struggled very hard with this until I added a filter and suddenly saw not the goofy, nervous guy but the ruthless one that would behead a father in front of his child in search for revenge. This Alistair has loved two people, Duncan and the Warden, both are gone.
Screenshot reference obviously, any Dragonager can recognize it
Here it is in case anyone is interested:

Aaw, thanks, and thank you also for the mention. I love to work with textures, they can give you so much input to an image.

When he was willing to kill Loghain outright, I saw a little kids temper tantrum. He was angry and blind and heartbroken. He deserved to be happy and to be raised with appreciation. I paused when I beat Loghain because the man basically broke and it made me hesitate. I couldn't not kill him when I heard Alistair's outcry. I WAS going to kill him anyway, because of the slavery, but still, I literally put my controller down bc of the way Loghain acted after I beat him- Alistair snapped me out of it. The dude spent the whole game being a goof, trying to be light and make the Warden know they had a friend in him. With my Warden he pretty much acted like a second mabari for the group, and even when I killed Isolde to save Connor (bc I didn't know you had enough time to go to the tower and finish it and get the lyrium lmao I assumed that there was no way in hell you could et back in time to save anyone) he backed down (ok fair enough my main is basically the smoothest person ever so I pretty much diffused all the situations ever).

Urg it just hurts me to think about Alistair alone. I mean...if he survives and is warden, and the Warden is dead, then his situation is pretty much this: Orlesian Wardens who doubt him completely (understandable), no older members of the ferrelden wardens, no real comraderie in the Wardens bc the Wardens see him as Sempai or ''that weird chesse guy who smells like dog''. He'll never get what he wanted. The Wardens were his family...and now pretty much all of them are homocidal assholes who are freaking out bc of the corypherus bs.
Oh And he'll never know about Fiona, probably. If the quiz joined the templars she's DEFINITELY dead. And he'll probably never know anything for real about his dad. And if he gets cured...then...he has no purpose? One doesn't need a purpose to live, I know that as a fact, but Alistair is a point-to-point guy - escape templar vows hold, maske duncan proud, avenge duncan after he gets killed, kill the archdemon, reform the wardens. and then he notices he's 40 in a world where that's probably the general lifespan anyway and he has nothing to do, and no people to go back to (they are either too occupied or dead already), and he'll probably face the ''holy shit the wardens were p much ghouls?'' stygma.

I mean I can cheer myself up by imagining him raising the griffons and hanging out with them and with dog and him then having a griffon farm and cheese factory and then one day Fiona comes by and tells him about the stuff and Oghren comes to visit with his grandkids and Alistair remembers why he doesn't keep contact with any of these nerds wow is he glad HE didn't have a family, amirite. He throws cheese cubes at Anora when she attempts to collect taxes from him. She brings an army but Alistair is a bag full of dumb luck and he's managed to convince them to join his tax-evading cause via cheese bribery.  ''You can only have so much cheese, you fool!'' Anora shouts at him. Alistair scoffs. He has so much cheese he even has a cheese shield. Ferrelden is thrown into a massive recession all because the cheese king is boycotting dogland. BEautiful

Oh gosh, I agree 100% with most of your points. I have several Keep endings but this one stuck me as true, depressing but true. Love the hanging out with Oghren part though.

Very nice!
I let my Alistair become king and settle down with Anora, figured being a king would be less life-threatening than that of a warden!

Oh i've tried many of them aswell, but only one variation got carried over into DA2, and then Inquisition!
Now when i see the other versions it just makes feel weird and go "NO! THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED! DON'T BE A BITCH MORRIGAN!"

olivegbg In reply to splaty [2015-03-14 06:57:27 +0000 UTC]

Ah, but you can create whatever version you wish in The Keep and select that when you start a new Inquisition game. I've always killed Loghain because Duncan... but I would be kind of interesting to have him working with Orlesians

Oh i know, since i have inquisition for Ps4 i had to use the Keep(sooo many choices to remember)!
Yeah i always killed Loghain too(most of the times i let Alistair do it, REVENGE), but it would be fun to see how he reacts at working with the Orlesians! And i'd have no problem abandoning him to the Nightmare!

I'm so damn weak when it comes to splatters (should probably become a hand-painter). I tried several color schemes, some of them were undeniably more attractive but none suited the image like this one.

It really didn't take off until I found this angle. Was disappointed that he disappeared to Weisshaupt, I wanted him to lead the Orelesian Wardens.

Yeah, that would be great... (imagine Loghain in his place though).
At least he could have waited for the Warden if romanced :/

It's incredible, as is all of your work.  This piece talks to me, I keep coming back and looking at it again and again.  I think I might be using this image to color my future idea of Alistair when I write him.  You are an inspiration!

Gaspode5 [2015-03-02 10:13:40 +0000 UTC]

My first thought was 'Oh gosh, it's Lord Byron as a vampire!' Which is not as bad as it sounds. This oozes Victorian darkness and drama, despite the medieval armour. I like seeing this side of Alistair because it's there. Only it gets overshadowed by the goofy, naive almost Templar.

I love the dramatic contrast between the pale face and the dark chaotic background. The tormented expression on his face reflects what goes on inside him. That his face is turned sideways is very apt. This is not the open, honest Alistair. This man is bitter, have nothing to loose, and no interest in his fellow men beyond his duty.

Oh, and the nice dots of sharp highlights makes his armour look black.

olivegbg In reply to Gaspode5 [2015-03-02 19:14:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, the pose is not mine but a lucky screencapture. However I saw potential and a twist. I really should do this one better, or at least clean it up a bit but right now I'm so happy I managed an Alistair I believe in. Truth be told I find him extremely hard to draw.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gaspode5 In reply to olivegbg [2015-03-02 20:44:45 +0000 UTC]

Looks wise he's oddly bland, yet there is a distinct Alistairness to him. I just can't quite put my finger on it. On the surface he's also a much more easy going and happy person than you normally draw.

I was actually thinking I would love to see this bigger and tidied up. This is something I would put on my wall, together with another couple of your stamp sized images...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

olivegbg In reply to Gaspode5 [2015-03-03 17:05:13 +0000 UTC]

Ah, this is Inquisition Alistair. I stuck pretty close (have added the screenshot I used). While he wasn't perhaps DAO Alistair at least he wasn't the DA2 disaster.
Gaspode, I don't tidy up, I might correct mistakes and add a few dots sometimes, that's it. My images gets more boring the more time I spend on them. Yes I know I draw small size, I hate zooming...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gaspode5 In reply to olivegbg [2015-03-03 21:00:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, I think I meant the same thing when I said tidy up.

I know, but it would be nice if there was a chance to put one of these pictures on the wall. Even postcard size would do. Besides, zooming is a doddle now with your Inuos.
