I always assumed they were men (unless stated otherwise) because they are wearing what was male clothing at the time (and long hair was in fashion back then too). Sorry, I was confused.

I am the oppinion that gentleman and ladies , should be dressed , if they want of course , and if they have a beautiful body
in a new SECOND RENAISSANCE , with doublets and silk tights , showing the own sensuality .
Today , all of them . females and males are dressing trousers . Why not , better , tights or the ladies also , some time stockings ?
The legs have their own personality and expression, which is a part of human personality . The tights emphasize it .
