Description This piece was made primarily for the "Permian Continent" episode by Keenan Taylor for it's Spec Evo setting of "Tales of Kaimere".

A piece that I send to him, yet unfortunately unusable in the dedicated episode, due to the fact he already uploaded it by advance when I send the piece to him.
And was impossible to integrate it into the episode.

Yet, even if that sad that this free additionnal illustration is unable o be featured in the episode, Keenan however have said to me that this fanart was still fantastic and a great work !

Meaning that what we see match and can fit the Lore of Tales of Kaimere, especially regarding the Lore regarding the Permian Continent, and that this piece would have been otherwise used in final if he get it more earlier.

And that still nice to heard that from him, the author himself of the spec evo universe of Kaimere

Whatever, this piece depict the ancestor of the Mogoa, a speculative fully aquatic manatee-like dicynodont, and the first dicynodont species Keenan have made and shown in his videos on his YouTube channel.
As far as 2 years old by know as I wrote these lines, from the early days of his channel in the first half of 2021.

So, because of that and because there will be at Tuesady 18 July 2023 the episode on the Permian Continent in which the species's lineage evolved and came from, I decided to made a fanart of his ancestor Keenan have leaked on his Facebook account (here: www.facebook.com/illustratedme… ) among some others ancetors of others lineages of others modern kaimeran dicynodonts.

Again, too bad I send him too late this piece, but only hearing it is good from his own word is sufficient to made me still prety proud of it !

Description of the scene :

"In the Prehistoric past of the Permian Continent, at the time of the adaptive radiation of the Dicynodonts, somewhere in a swamp, either inland or near coasts, a specimen of the Mogoa's ancestor swim at his own activity.

Almost completely submerged, with only his nostrils being above waters, in order to continue to breathe while remaining unseen and safe by all the others potentials permian continent inhabitants present in the surrounding area.

On the near riverbank, a couple of ancestors relatives of the Hammer-headed looking Dicynodonts lineage walk at their own occupations.
Foraging and eating the low vegetation on the ground.

One of them, turning his head to the river, suddenly see the top of the nostrils of the semi-aquatic animal.
An odd object walking independently by himself for the hammer-looking dicynodont who don't see the remaning of the animal underwater, and that it never see before in it life such his way.

Soon, the strange object go far into the swamp, outside the reach of vision of the land animal, who soon forget what it just witnessed and go again foraging.

Underwater, near the bottom of the river, others animals under the form of strange looking fishes also walk their way among the rocks and aquatic plants.
Potentially members of the Pycnodontiformes, an extinct clade of fishes on Earth, but their true cladistic are in reality not known for sure."

---------------------------

For this fanart, considering the scarce and few info Keenan have leak about before the released of the Permian Continent episode, I take into consideration several things.

I made things simple, here I have just take the animals he share on the Facebook post I mention upper and put them into one single piece, in one single scenery, as I can guess that they obviousely meet in numerous ways when these (fictionnal) species were alived.

I made the waters not too deep, in case the semi-aquatic dicynodont wasn't a good swimmer in deep waters.
Because being an aquatic or semi-aquatic animal don't mean that you are actually a good swimmer.
Hippos are a great example of that. They still all the day in water, yet they are poor swimmers, being only capable to "walk" underwater and made jump to breathe above water before falling again at the bottom of the rivers or lakes they inhabit.

I take into consideration others notes and moves, that i judge to be good to made my piece not too precise, with more stuff more open in order to be good to be used in the video as an additional illustration to depict the creatures that are shown in it :

- The coloration of the animals are of course pure speculation (like every restoration of extinct creatures) but yet plausible ones, typical of swamps animals. Who are typical grey or green, especially for aquatic animals.
The land Dicynodont have blue coloration similar to their Hammer-headed descendant, to made clear of their relationship.

- The fin tail of the aquatic animal is cut here and here, with missing parts, like is often the case for all fully aquatic animals, from predation from aquatic carnivores. To add more realism, because completely clean and ununjured animals would not made sense.

- I depicted the scene in a swamp because it was more likely than the Mogoa's ancestor have evolved in such biome, before going into the sea, from fresh to brackish to saltwater waters, like that was the case for every clades of land animals that returned to sea (like Cetacean with Archeocetes like Ambulocetus and Pakicetus, or the Sirenian with the Protosirenian).
