He has the flesh of something, it looks black and humanoid, but there's spikes on his legs and muscles, what species is he part of?

Ah - yes - I see now.
Well, the artist - who is very skilled - came up with this design for Skeletor.
And - in brief - humanoid is right; as Keldor he was once human. But his pact with the Darkness to allow him the power to overcome his foes, led him to assume a form both human and demoniac, which resulted in his skull-headed, dark-skinned and callositied appearance. He is, in effect, now more demon than human.

Yes, defeated, bowed and chained as he is, even kneeling at his enemy's feet, He-Man is still the summit of male perfection.
And that may partly explain why Skeletor hates him so much......
