I never understand it when people try to make Mettaton female. Mettaton's diaries show he used to be referred to with they/them pronouns (being a ghost), and he explicitly chose to be male with alphys.

For everyone who argue about Mettatons gender: (spoiers!) I have a theory. When Mettaton's body was being built, Alphas my not of accepted her own sexuality at the time. So she made something male, as sexy as possible in her eyes. So my final verdict is. Mettaton is both.

Geesh, tough crowd. Look this isn't some weird Genderswap AU version of Mettaton you've got going on here. It's not even that stylized. It's just Mettaton, as he is in the game. As HE is. If you can't even be bothered to respect the gender identity of a fictional character, I'd hate to see you around an actual trans person. If it just happened to be poor word choice, you could've just admitted as much and laughed it off. You could've even just said 'Well his head is on Jenny's body now' or something jokey like that and I would've left it alone. But you didn't. You choose to say you 'interpreted differently' something as flatly and plainly stated as the fact Mettaton is male/identifies as male. I could quote any number of lines that refer to him as 'he' but that would be boring and far too pedantic. It's just the facts, man. We all live with them every day.Β

Understandable, however, me, this person, and any other person who likes drawing Mettaton as a female has no part in the creation of Undertale, so it doesn't matter how they draw or refer to them. I have transgendered friends who think that this is no big deal, and I know they aren't holding back their feelings because they know I can take the truth, and they've admitted issues people have committed with misgendering; however, they feel like it's no big deal with a fictional character.
I will still refer to Mettaton as a "he" when referring to the canon, but when drawing/writing, I will use "she" because It's not official. It's just like how people draw Mettaton with different aesthetics, as some people draw him with black boots, a stocky body, or hair with pink streaks; if we're "supposed" to draw him a certain gender, then why are we not "supposed" to draw him looking a certain way? Am I, or any other artist subject to having our artistic freedom taken? Because if so, that defeats the purpose of being an artist.
Before you scream "hate art", know that hate art is the DELIBERATE hatred of a group; there is no indirect way to express hate art, as characters who hate a certain group are not necessarily the products of hateful people, but rather the victim of healthy character flaws, and stereotypes are usually used in satire. If someone wants to draw/write hate, they will draw/write hate. There is no gray zone.
