Description - Experimenting with NAPALM on a cold, rainy, windy night -

Step 1: Mix high density styrofoam by hand with gasoline.
Step 2: Absorb all gasoline with any remaining styrofoam.
Step 3: Form two layers of the letter "A" , cover again with napalm, light on fire.
Step 4: Take pictures from many angles, trying to avoid the tar black smoke.
Step 5: Wash face, camera, clothes, hands, hair, and entire body of BLACK dense "toxic" smoke.
Step 6: Review pictures taken of napalm, away from the FREEZING and RAINY night.
Step 7: Post the most inspiring, well captured and brilliant shot.
Step 8: Wait to see if other deviants like the work.
Step 9: Enjoy the piece of artwork!

- -
This was a very hard photo to get. The work involved and the cleanup. It was freezing, windy, and rainy. Every little hair on my face was coated in a TAR black from the smoke of the napalm. I hope everyone enjoys the shot! I have pictures of all the crap that was on my face, and the process to make the napalm.

I hope you all enjoy this one!

careful, its got very, very very toxic fumes..... you missed out on adding bezine to the solution you get from polystyrene & gas. it makes quite the difference. good idea on doing it in the cold. i tried it & the stuff was way way too hot.

ya, i had black smoke stuck all over the hairs on my face.

probably not the best thing I have done...

Isn't it Benzine? I'll try it....

You mix petrol (gasoline) for the making of the napalm?

Very nice shot great flames

phisch2222 [2004-09-08 13:43:02 +0000 UTC]

haha, yes home made napalm. You should try making a napalm molatov(spelling...?) cocktail, it makes an awsome explosion of long lasting burning fun. I also know how to make a form of napalm useing jello mix. I've never tried it, but it sounds like it would work very well. Basicaly follow the dirrections for the jello, but use gassoline as the cold liquid and karosen as the warm liquid. Just remember to use gas as the cold and when warming up the karosen, use a double boiler method, lighting yourself on fire isn;t fun...unless it's from hair spray......lol, I"m to much of a pyro....anyway

Nice shot, i love how the flame looks, very awsome.

This is sweet...we used to do this all the time, caught MANY awesome depictions of fire on camera. You can also use Irish Spring soap, heh.

OR, better yet, foam packing peanuts soak it up and shit better...

how did you get the background to come out so black? my experience with fire photography has always been a bit disappointing, because the fire lights up the surrounding area too much. What type of shutter speed and f-stop do you use, if you don't mind me asking. This is an amazing shot, and an amazing idea! pyro-chemistry is fun, and artistic chem is even better.

OneBloomPhotography In reply to trouble523 [2004-05-05 00:17:48 +0000 UTC]

This was taken using my tripod...and very steady hands...

I think at this point I said "screw the tripod" and started using my hands, because the fire was so bright it wouldn't have mattered.

Once I blew on the napalm, I realized it wouldn't go out, and it created a very cool effect.

So, after sucking in lots of carsonogens...(toxic) which is basically BLACK smoke that coats everything...face, camera....lungs...

I got this shot, I think the f-stop was just a regular 2.0 and the shutter speed was somewhere around 1/80....

But, don't quote me on that one.

Either way, the shots all turned out great, and this one specifically looks sooooo awesome on a cell phone!!! Well, because it's an A (Adam, Aaron, Alex...whoever), but also cuz it's fire!!
