Heidi proved tenacious at fighting back and finally figured out Elena’s rhythm.
Using Elena’s aggressive tactics against her was the way to take her down and Heidi used not one but two. First an incoming Elena kick was dodged leaving he open and vulnerable and off balance.
Heidi clocked her with a clothesline.
Wrestling her around the ring for a while took it’s toll but Elena got her game back with a take down into yet another hammerlock, this one with Heidi face down.
The blonde’s arm felt this one for a while until Elena rose and hit her with a stomp to the back. She tried to follow that up slam but Heidi blocked and hammered her in the back between the shoulder blades with a forearm.
Had she just stuck with keeping Heidi on the ground and working that arm she may have had something. Instead she found herself scooped and slammed down across her foe’s outstretched knee.
Heidi held her there for a moment before transitioning into a dragon sleeper and locked it in tight.
Elena fought for a few seconds but the end was at hand.
“Give it up, Elena?” Diane asked, positioned in behind the action but looking right at the fading Elena.
“Yes” she gurgled out.
“That’s it!! Heidi let her go!” and Heidi immediately let loose the hold, sliding Elena off her as she did.
It was a powerful finish to the match for the newcomer. An eye opener for the balance of the league perhaps.
“The winner via submission… Heidi Thomas!! That’s 3 points for her and 0 for Elena Santiago.”
Heidi hung in the ring for a few moments, unsure what the protocol was and not wanting to walk away from a downed foe if it was frowned upon.
In a moment Diane saw to it that Elena was fine and seated up, giving Heidi her cue to slide out.
“Good match” she said, pausing to make sure she was heard before easing out of the ring.
“Yeah… thanks” was all Elena could muster. She was disappointed in herself and for her friends, feeling maybe she’d let them down. That was far from the case and they would all reiterate that later.
