At the beginning of the story, she takes a drug that helps prevent this virus from infecting, and simultaneously heals the wound. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in large quantities: the largest a wound can be is about the size of an average human mouth. Any bigger, and the infection spreads, even if only a small amount, before the drug can annihilate the virus and close the wound. In her case, she's infected by another tryant. If you've played Resident Evil 3 before, Try and imagine what Nemesis did to Brad: stabbed him in the chest with his hand-tentacle. This, similarly, happens to Sam, but she's hit in several places: Left side chest, Right side gut, right thigh, upper right shoulder, and lower back. Now, you may be confused as to why her arm got the worst of it. Although her arm was not severely affected, the Tyrant, originally named Nathan, throws her against a concrete wall, on her right side. The flesh on her arm is shaved, and then her arm suddenly becomes the most susceptible place for a wound to infect, so It all goes there. She becomes healed eventually, but not physically. Her mind is cured, but no human can live long with extreme infections, so she dies at the end.

anyway, took about 2 hours to draw/finalize, and a little under 2 hours to color. Total investment time: 4 hours.
