I know the snow in the foreground looks a little weird, but I don't really know how to fix it... Critiques and comments gladly appreciated

Nice subtle use of lighting. Really helps the image look believable.

really beautiful. The sky's colors bleeding on to the mountain and water -- just wonderful!

as you said, the foreground snow looks a wee bit strange, but the rest looks thoroughly convincing. Maybe one of the layers needs a little more bump to fix the foreground ?

Yeah, I meant to go and fix that by now, I just never got around to it

It's really well done... the mood is what makes the picture. I feel like it's just after sunrise in some bitterly cold place, where you're losing a toe a second to frostbite, and yet you can't help but stop and watch as the sun rises higher and the water slowly ripples. Maybe it's an effect of this chilly house (though really, considering that it's less than 10 days from the summer solstice and we haven't put in the air conditioners yet, that shouldn't be possible), but this picture really evokes that mood really well for me.

Very nice, I admire the near-photorealistic quality you can get out of Terragen.

As for the snow, what looks weird to me is in the lower left where it butts up against the water. It looks like too sudden of a transition. If you look at that segment of snow, it's also a little blocky, and it has a similar transition problem with the terrain in the lower left.

But the rest of the snow looks fine.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to go about fixing that lower left part other than post-working it with a clone tool or something, which I'm not all that adept at

I like it alot.
Everything is so beautiful, except from that snow, and the fact that it's not so good in the chaninging from snow to water, if you know what I mean...

Yeah I know what you mean, I'll have to add in a muddy snow layer next time

Great snow!
What I love the most is the lighting, it looks so real!

Cheers mate, I was definitely trying to work on the realism for this one.

Nice work. Doing good.

Strange with that snow in the foreground, indeed... Not sure of how to fix it. Perhaps decrease the coverage for that region a little?

Yeah, I'm gonna look into it, and if it works out I'll change it around Thanks

How about looking at the Scale and Mimic Terrain? Really not sure, but it might help a little

Why not upload the world and terrain files and see if someone can fix the snow for you?

Otherwise it's looking good!

Well the terrain file is available over at ~TerraDEM . I'll try to fix it up myself first though

gee this is so real looking, what a great job only tiny thing mebbe is taper slightly the light parts on the left snow bank toward the front

onesixone In reply to ArtisticLicenseNow [2007-05-24 22:43:40 +0000 UTC]

I'm not too sure on how to do that though. But thanks for the lovely comment

i'm not sure either...mebbe it's that the closer part is not as detailed as the further away part, but dang it's not important, the whole piece is so good

Nice. The snow doesn't look weird, either. I like how you managed to get yours to look soft and puffy. I never could pull that off

And do I see Mount Everest?

onesixone In reply to T1g4h [2007-05-24 22:39:52 +0000 UTC]

Yep, the lady was right. It's Mt. St. Hellens indeed. Thanks for the compliment, in this one a placed multiple slight colour variations between snow layers. Which is as far as I can tell created that 'puffiness.'

onesixone In reply to BlueFlamedPhoenix [2007-05-24 22:41:33 +0000 UTC]

I don't actually control that much detail. Terragen uses some mathematics on it's own part to tell where the reflection should be. I'll have to look into it though Thanks
