Description I'm actually really curious to know which position Bella took on that essay.

If you like Twilight, please don't rant here. I'll just delete it. I have every right in the world to make fun of it if I choose to. I respect those who like the series (just not the series itself), so show me respect in return by not writing angry "you suck" comments.

I'd really like to not have to put this under mature warning simply because people click it and get easily offended.

Let me put it this way, unless you are Stephanie Meyer- I don't want to hear any angry defenses of the series. Kay?

That aside, hope everyone had some happy holidays!

Bella & Mike (c) Stephanie Meyer

LOL, so true. I always thought that even back when I could still stomach the series (too many fangirls squealing about it all the time and acting like idiots and a last book that was pure wish-fullfillment for the author just killed it for me).

niiiiiiiiiiice. Heh heh... yeah, Meyer is a little self-inserting, anti-feminist author, if you could call her an author.

Usually, self-inserts aren't bad. The author usually knows his or her own faults. But in a story like this, it's more like... a sexual fantasy for her...

Like her HUSBAND isn't good enough?

Actually its been stated that she's told the poor idiot who married her "If my characters were real I'd leave you for them" Sorry know its late but had ta say it

That's really sad when you choose fictional characters over your husband...

I guess maybe her husband isn't good enough. Perhaps we should buy her some attractive hookers so we don't have to be curse with her bad writing anymore.

Oh, goodness! That's absolutely priceless! I love the last panel, just all the faces and the pure insanity in her eyes...
You know what was really misogynous to me? Now, I don't know if you saw the movie (I had to, it was a friend's birthday party, we called Edward "Jesus" because he glowed, it was priceless) and I'm not sure how exact this was to the book, but when she gets bitten the doctor says, "Edward, it's your choice, do we let it happen or stop it now?"
...why is it EDWARD'S choice? I mean, shouldn't it be Bella's?
-shrugs- I dunno, when it comes down to it the thing that really turns me off was that it's a published Mary Sue, and people simply go crazy over those Mary Sues, and the surge of Mary Sues build bigger and bigger! And it's not even that well written! Such as, J. K. Rowling wasn't the best writer, she was okay, but she had a brilliant plot and that made it all worth reading. Stephanie Myer, however, just shoved fluff and angst into an average kind of written book. Perhaps I've merely gotten spoiled by good writing?
Very funny comic though, I like the little Twilight kick you're on. It makes me laugh!

Yup, we also swore we said he'd be Jesus if he glowed.
When I saw him, I just wanted to hug him. Run up and sob into his shirt, "You poor thing, we'll find a cure!"
He looked like he had some kind of disease! I wanted to start a fund!

we were trying to find the sparkles, me and my sister. we supposed he was suppose to be sparkling but he didn't look like he was sparkling. Just looked like he was standing in the sunlight. So I was all confused. "And you can't go out into the sunlight because...?"

Because he looks like Jesus.

OneWingedMuse In reply to BittersweetRomantic [2008-12-27 17:31:42 +0000 UTC]

well i adored j.k. rowling because she "surprised" me in every book. something always happened that i didn't expect. and that above everything else thrills me in a book. i hate predictable stories.

but yeah so meyer... nothing's really surprising. girl meets vamp. girl and vamp fall in love. love is declared forbidden. girl eventually gets bitten by either this vamp or another. girl is saved. the end.

i didn't expect vampire baseball. but it wasn't exactly a happy discovery.

yeah everything was edward's choice. whether he wanted to be around her. if she lived or died. if they could continue to be together. edward made all the decisions and bella was completely okay with it. notice every time she says no, he eventually makes her say yes- either through force or cohesion.

it just makes me sad to see women in such a controlling relationship. even her love for him is based purely on his looks. i'm convinced he just mesmerized her with his vamp powers.

if stephanie really wanted to write a book about a deep and meaningful relationship. she should have had edward pushing away not because he was dangerous but because the love wasn't REAL. that would have been far more interesting. And it would have made me respect Edward much more.

"i'm dangerous" yeah whatever. stupid vamp, go back to playing sparkly vampire baseball.

BittersweetRomantic In reply to OneWingedMuse [2008-12-27 18:12:32 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean with J. K. Rowling, I only guessed a couple things, and I had no idea who the half blood prince was until the very end of that book! That was a very nice surprise. Plus, she even made up an exciting sport.
Baseball...I mean, it just seems like how it would be if steroids were allowed, y'know? Just a super version of it, and I'm not a giant fan of baseball to begin with.
O.O He did! When I first read that, I started thinking, there had to be at least ONE thing but...no. He forced her or tricked her into everything. The only thing she did on her own was go see Mr. Evil Vampire and that wasn't exactly the smartest plan. Plus, all the vampires there drugged her with their powers to try to keep her in place. Gee, really supporting the independence there.
Mmm, I figured that he was doing that too. It makes a lot of sense, they even had the entire scene of "I'm the perfect predator! Everything about me draws you in!" Which, thanks to your comment, makes me wonder, isn't it more like the Venus Fly Trap and a fly than a sheep and a lion? When was the last time a sheep walked up to a lion and thought it was pretty? The fly trap on the other hand...sneaky thing.
"she should have had edward pushing away not because he was dangerous but because the love wasn't REAL"
Now THAT'S interesting! I would read a story like that. The girl's transfixed on him and it's all because of his vampire mesmerizing powers. That would be a cool story. Perhaps he likes her back, but he can never find out if she actually loves him or if she's just hypnotized. That's something to angst over.

After all, she's already writing the same story from a different point of view, perhaps she'll write the same story with an alternate middle and ending. XD

OneWingedMuse In reply to BittersweetRomantic [2008-12-28 16:10:03 +0000 UTC]

oh she decided to stop writing that one because it might be good because of a leak.

it got leaked onto the internet cause she sent it to a friend who wasn't so good a friend. so she threw a fit and decided to stop writing it.

personally, it's her own fault. when you start becoming that popular you can't just start showing off your manuscript to people willy nilly. of course they'll be tempted to show it off to people.

which is why JK Rowling kept her final manuscript on her at all times. and even it got leaked towards the end, but she sent out a plea to the fans that if they got the leak to kindly keep it to themselves and not tell everyone else the ending.

which worked for the most part.

really when stephanie meyer ranted on her journal, it just let more people find the leaked manuscript.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BittersweetRomantic In reply to OneWingedMuse [2008-12-28 17:01:38 +0000 UTC]

I don't even know why people would WANT to read those manuscripts! They're unedited, I'd spend the entire time being distracted by, "well, there's supposed to be a comma here and a period there and this should be capitalized and the handwriting on some of this handwritten pages is HORRIBLE!"
I do feel sorry that it got leaked, that sucks no matter who you are, but it's awfully weird to pitch a fit and not published it. After all that work you did? That's like a musical group finding out that their songs are on Limewire and refusing to play anymore. If you really care about your writing and the real fans of the book, she should finish writing and publish it. That's not fair that all are punished because of a few.
I remember that with J.K, didn't she get stopped in an airport or something and have to get special clearance because of her suitcase full of the manuscript? I'm pretty sure I saw something on that. She kept that thing locked up like it was cyanide.
...Stephanie Meyer keeps an online journal...? Gee, that's...I can't even be sarcastic. That's really weird to me. If it's just talk about her work, that's fine, but if she's ranting like a thirteen year old with a blog that's a little disturbing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OneWingedMuse In reply to BittersweetRomantic [2008-12-29 06:02:28 +0000 UTC]

well JK had a online journal too. but she mostly just spoke about her work.

and yes that story you heard was true.

Meyer is a bit whiney in her journal, at least from what I can tell. I've never read JK's but I read clips of Meyer's and she sounds to me like some of her live journaling fans, (no offense to those who used livejournal, cause i do too). Livejournal users have the notorious sterotype (aka habit) of whining.
