Description In retaliation to my current secondary project "Avatar: New Beginnings", we're exploring the Avatar after Wan, and along with that the world after Wan. Among the different Lion Turtle cities that carried numerous people and different cultures, one we've developed is called the "Lightning and Wind" Tribe.Β

They're among the first inhabitants of the Fire Islands (aka the Fire Nation). We've based them off many Hawaiian/Polynesian cultures and naturally, they're firebenders. They live among the volcanic islands that trail the mainland itself. They're skilled benders who also create the substyle of lightningbending, thus giving them the name "Lightning" in their culture.Β

They're sadly one of the many small cultures that disappear when Toz invades and conquers the islands, though they integrate with many of the surrounding locations. They popularize the golden eyes that become one of the most common physical features of the modern day Fire Nation. Many of their descendants are among the Water Tribes as well as parts of the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom.

First off, not an ounce of this is racist towards Pacific Islanders. Secondly, the fact you're stereotyping Polynesian women as simply making food and watching kids is so sexist it's not even funny.Β

You of all people should know that we're supposed to educate people about our culture, not throw the racism card. This artist has put time and effort into this piece and the first thing you want to say is "You tryna be racist"? Instead of being blatantly disrespectful, maybe try and say "Hey, maybe do this differently". I haven't found any sort of racism in this piece, rather there's a tie to multiple parts of Polynesian cultures tied into a fictional world. This obviously isn't supposed to be specifically a real Pacific Islander girl. It's based off a television show, Avatar the Last Airbender.Β

And FYI, there are female fire dancers. If you weren't aware there are plenty of female fire dancers across Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti and Hawai'i. Instead of being sexist and rude, maybe try and educate people in our cultures instead of being hateful. Our culture has never been one about hate, we're supposed to be humble. This is the farthest thing from that.

That was most certainly not my intentions at all. This individual is a firebender from a fictional story I’m writing. My intentions were to incorporate a group of people inspired on real Pacific Islander cultures. If I mistakenly have done something please correct me, but this is all a work of fiction.Β

If you can, please tell me exactly what it is that makes this racist and I will do my best to fix the piece and better my knowledge! I’ve had a very close friend of mine who is Pacific Islander help me put this culture together for my story, so if there’s something I was misinformed about or misinterpreted please tell me. I don’t want to make the same mistake again.Β

Ahhh me and my partner are doing a similar idea for this story (though not a complete history, just our current timeline for this project) I’d say possibly but I don’t think I have the time I do wish you the best of luck with it! Thank you though I’m very flattered 😊

I stan this whole thing oml I love it.

I myself would've made them waterbenders, but to keep it logical firebenders are indeed the way to go lol
Will there be more of this culture as well? or not?
