Description

I'm back up and running!

Do keep in mind, this is just a practice run.
I plan to do some more work tomorrow, but this was simply another one pieces to take the rust off my hinges so to speak. Wonderful stock, great contrast and my sloppy iris editing actually looks pretty nice on this one.
Ultimately I just had fun with this one!

You can also find a close up of this particular iris and the technique I use here!

And I promise ~roarsaystigers and *Allendra3 I WILL get to work on your manipulations here soon!

Really just glad to be back.

Thank you!

And sure I'd be happy to help.
I created a tutorial of how I manipulate my eyes, it's a bit outdated and created in GIMP but it should still work well in photoshop. Here's the [link]

I also plan to create a tutorial based on this deviation, so hopefully that should be of some help here in the near future.

Oh, I'm sorry. Here it is again [link]

If that still doesn't work it's the featured deviation on my old userpage ~LoupxEnxargent616 .
It should be to the left of the screen when you view it.

And that's awesome! I'll definitely let you know when the new tutorial comes out.

You're welcome

I'm gonna see if I can take of my painting in a few.

I'm using acrylic paper and not canvases so.. it kinda curled a little.

I'm gonna do my next three on my 8 x 10 stretched canvases though.

Again, that's the only way to develop awesome skills with acrylics.
Practice.
And you learn to layer and blend after a bit as well.

I like doing the details, but I run out of paint on my brush easily, and being raised on pencil work, I have a bad habit of making many short strokes instead of one long one..

and then there's getting too much paint at once..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Onyx-Tigeress In reply to GekkouKitsune [2010-10-09 22:31:06 +0000 UTC]

Believe me I know all about the too much or too little paint problem.
And my habit's almost the exact opposite, because I worked with paints more I always want to make long, curved strokes.
Same reason I can't draw or sketch in GIMP.

Pencil is just really my thing, lol. I've been working on a pencil portrait in Art Academy and it's coming out great.

I've really been taking my time on it, I just wish my options weren't so limited. This is literally what I have:

2H, HB, 2B Point (sketch, etc.)

2H, HB, 2B Flat (shade, on it's side, etc.)

Eraser Point

Eraser Flat

That's it unless I switch to Paints (which I'm not), but if I were, here's what I have at my disposal:

Small Round, Medium Round, Large Round

Small Flat, Medium Flat, Large Flat

and I have the ability to have No Paint, +1, +2, +3 paint, and No Water, +1, +2, +3 water.

And although I can mix colors, it's still kind of limited.

Better than anything I have as far as pencils go. Though I do have about a total of five kneaded erasers or so. One of my favorite traditional tools, as well as one of my favorite sculpting mediums as well.
I also have tortillions {paper shading sticks} but I don't use those all too often.

I have no idea how many paintbrushes I have. I have almost every style and size in everything from harsh bristles to horse hair.
Took about ten years to gather that kind of a collection.
And explain that +1, +2, +3 system to me. Never heard of it before.

GekkouKitsune In reply to Onyx-Tigeress [2010-10-10 01:10:08 +0000 UTC]

I have 8B-4H graphite pencils, some are different brands too and react differently to the paper. I also have a bunch of different kinds of paper, I'm running out of the kind I like to use. I'll have to see if I can find more like it. I have multiple kinds of erasers as well, and many tortillions, got a pack of them on eBay

The +1 system is just how much paint or water is on there. +1 is little, +2 is in-between, and +3 is the maximum amount you can have on your brush at a time.

IRL, I usually end up with about +8.

Onyx-Tigeress In reply to GekkouKitsune [2010-10-10 02:21:20 +0000 UTC]

See, total traditional graphite artist. You know what you're doing the majority of the time. Jeez, you give me even a mechanical pencil and I drag the graphite all over the place.

Wow, we don't even cover that in our art classes. Down here everything's judged by consistency, one persons 2 is another's 4.

And I usually end up there too!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GekkouKitsune In reply to Onyx-Tigeress [2010-10-10 02:34:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... I don't like mechanical pencils. And regular printer paper is my worst enemy. I cannot layer it, and whatever I put down on it smears very easily, even if it's the lightest. I need something with tooth, which is why I'll probably try out some of this acrylic paper with my pencils.

I wish I could have you as an art teacher.

Onyx-Tigeress In reply to GekkouKitsune [2010-10-10 02:45:45 +0000 UTC]

No, that's why I only sketch on printer paper.
If I actually want to do substantial work I usually use my sketchbook.
The acrylic paper with pencils sounds like an interesting idea. Let me know how it works out.

Aww!
Why?
