Is this like the stages of what happens after you see so many dead bodies? First time it shocks you. after a few more bodies, then it only stirs you. And a few more, you don't care at all.

So my next question is: What led Charles to become a Satanist?

Also, that whole Satanist thing is more old-draft related; the updated version of SPIKE does not portray Charles as a Satanist anymore. And even in the old draft he had the wrong idea about that particular philosophy / belief, using it merely as an excuse for the way he treated Spike. Or as an added shock factor or scare tactic, something to strengthen the manipulative techniques he used (like brainwashing, which ironically is used disturbingly frequently in the very religion Satanism (La Vey's version in particular) spawned from / wanted to detach from).
To play the Devil's attorney - no pun intended I guess - Satanists are generally calm and peaceful people, nothing at all like the stigma around them or media present them to be. Again showing how Charles - in the old draft of SPIKE - had the completely wrong idea about said belief/philosophy, and basically practiced the media-hyped version of it. Again; for the sake of scare tactics.
But I don't feel that Charles being a self-declared Satanist fits or serves any purpose in the newer draft and is just a redundant detail, so it is being left out, that much I can say

La Vey's book is pretty peaceful actually, more peaceful than books of the major religions. Glad you decided to remove that. It preaches respect and justice and reason

I'm guessing he grew in some Christian household? If so, what was that like? Legalistic, "let's love Jesus but not talk about real problems," "just keep praying the gay away," "bad things don't happen to good people" something in those categories? Did Jeremy identify with a religion?

I have no words to describe how I am feeling right now. This icon here, is accurate enough I guess.

oh wow, o.o i want to know what made him fall apart. huumm how deep does the rabbet hole go?this also make me wounder if Spike will find out. well now all i have is speculation and wonder.
Hopefully I'm not spoiling anything here but it looks like Charles is experiencing dissociation for his current situation, or maybe even far as saying as he in a state of derealization.
(Dissociation is a mental process of disconnecting from one's thoughts, feelings, memories or sense of identity. The dissociative disorders that need professional treatment include dissociative amnesia, dissociative fugue, depersonalisation disorder and dissociative identity disorder.)
(Derealization~noun~ a feeling that one's surroundings are not real, especially as a symptom of mental disturbance.)
So my next question is what mental disturbance or mental disorder does Charles suffer from? If you can say I understand because of spoiler reasons. lol
It makes me theorize a couple of mental disturbances and disorders but I'm not certain because I'll probably have to wait for the novel to come out to look In two Charles past. I will say it is putting my minor in psychology to work lol.
huumm i would if Charles hates himself for what he has become, deep with in self loathing and as mach as it wireds me out to say this does really care for spike. however is split in to multiple fragments and is lost in his own mind, plagued by what is being show here. it's weird to feel bad for Charles, but for some odd reason i do... i have some theories but i won't shear them here as just in case i get on the right track lol.
