Wow, just wow! I came across this when browsing all the DD's on my birthday, and this is by far my favorite. The color and composition is simply exquisite. I love how the photo really captures and exhibits an underlying beauty, while still remaining very candid

when i saw the smaller size, i thought it was a painting that looked like a picture, then when i saw the full view, it looked like a picture that was a painting... it confused me... great shot!!!

that's really just a great photo, very crisp and the colors are wonderful. you've captured something that many would see as crumbling, filthy, or poor and made it beautiful; and you've done so very well.

The colors, the plants and flowers remind me of New Orleans but the architecture is so different, all the details like those arches and the fading bright turquoise house is glorious. I can feel the heat. I know there are bugs, there were in New Orleans. The open windows and the way the curtain's tied, the way the structure of the house itself is likely to help it stay cool, the way the man looks as if he's handling it gracefully. Heat that would obliterate someone who's not used to it, he's taking it in stride.
The broken sidewalk with its missing pieces, the way some things are let go and others maintained so well, it speaks of poverty that I remember from New Orleans and something else, a sense of something strong and vital in the middle of it. There's sadness but also strength. I feel as if it's very complex and most of all, somewhere I've never been. Somewhere that I can glimpse, but never know the way people who've lived there do.
It makes me want to travel... or barring that, to write another novel.

Thank you for your comment! It's the longest I never had, and you say nearly what I feel when I am there. I try to express my impressions when I take a picture, and it's nice to see that sometimes it works.

I get the same feeling whenever I'm in Yangon. Just driving around downtown Yangon reminds me of mostly of Myanmar's history, but also South-East Asia's history. Those houses, like the one you photographed, must have been beautiful back then. But now... :/. Nonetheless, beautiful. The colors are just beautiful.
