This is an interesting 'e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="Wink/Razz" />ose' to photograph a bird in, I like the 'looking over the shoulder' composition and have used it myself in some of my bird shots! However I do think that the photo would benefit from giving the shot some empty space to the left side of the bird, giving it room to 'look into the shot' rather than be looking straight at the border if this makes sense (this is just my personal composition preference though).

I also feel that the focus of the shot isn't on the face or eye of the bird, but the feathers on the neck that are ruffled up. The eye is also very dull, making the bird seem a little lifeless to me. I always try to catch reflections or white dots in the eyes of animals I am photographing as it draws attention to them in the frame and give the shot life. I also feel like the colour on the face is extremely orange, like you've over saturated this part of the picture? I may be entirely wrong, I've never seen this species of caracara personnally so for all I know this could be what colour they are. But even if this is true I would try toning the orange down a little as to me it looks out of place in the shot.

This looks like a great bird to photograph though, I really do like the feathers on the neck that are black and white and ruffled up.

Great shot, It's a wonder you had good lighting back where the Caracara's are, myself and "country 67" have also been to the Brevard zoo and photographed the Caracara's but lighting was not that good. It did make for one interesting portrait though, check it out in my gallery some time....
