Description Hekate: The great lady of the powers of Dark over light and light over the dark. The bender, healer and conjuror. She is the goddess of the mystic arts, the patroness of Witches, oracles, diviners, soothseers, Astrologers and healers. She is also the flayer of those that use Magic for poor and wrongful reasons.

This piece was actually a requested commission and out of the order I intended. Anyway, so here we have Hekate, the woman of the mystic arts. The lady that is revered by people of the past AND today; Though today she is so vastly misunderstood and shamefully misrepresented. Looking back to pre-Roman artifacts, Hekate is not the 3-headed nor 3-bodies goddess so often talked about today. (Though she is represented on one pottery artifact as being 2 separate goddesses walking together). Other than that, Hekate seen is a goddess like any other. She was not DARK nor foreboding. Most of the references I have used here are Pre-classical and come from pottery depictions: The Crown, Chiton and Himation styles and textures. I added dogs to the base of her Himation, representing her totem animal as an add-in. Her earrings come from the National Museum in Athens and the "Ferret Pyxis" is from the Getty Museum, another one of her lesser known totems. Her cauldron is based on the famous censor stand from Delphi (which is one of my favorite art pieces) The shield in the back is that of a black bull. Though there is no solid evidence of Black bulls being offered to Hekate, she is seen as a chthonic deity, so the black bull is not out of the realm of possibility, and represents STRENGTH and FERTILITY in one's magic arts. I also gave Hekate a slight Middle Eastern look, as her origin is indeed pre-Minoan from various middle eastern places.
