Description Profile:

Name: Locke "Origami" Wulfe

Age: 17

Height: 6'1" or 185 cm

Weight: 199 lbs or 90 kg

Species: Human Hybrid

Occupation: Bookshop Clerk

Power: Manipulate paper to his will, limited by the amount of paper available and his imagination. Increase durability of paper to be able to withstand most impacts and explosions; can cut through most matter that is not magic or energy based. Can "talk" to books.

Weakness: Fire and water. Women flirting with him, regardless of species. Low self-esteem; if brought down low enough he will give up, but will go berserk if pushed too far.

Likes: Books, friends, silence, privacy, canines, music, chocolate, stories, other paper based mediums for storytelling.

Dislikes: Fire, bullies, loud noises, fighting, causing harm to others, killing, being the center of attention, those who destroys and/or treats books poorly.

History: Locke never knew who his birth parents were, seeing as he was as an orphan ever since he was an baby. He grew up in the Safe Anchorage Orphanage, which was a small orphanage that housed children of various sizes and ages. He was bullied by many of the kids for the color of his hair and his shyness. This in turn led him to seek solace of some kind, which he found in the form of books. The books became his friends and he could eventually "talk" to the books. As time went on, Locke began to completely detach himself from the world around him, even going so far as to doing almost everything while he read. This caused the workers at the orphanage to worry to a great extent, as the little bibliophile refused to interact with the other children.

Eventually, he was adopted by a kind and nonchalant woman named, Nell Wulfe, a bookshop owner, by the time he reached the age of 11. After his adoption, Locke began to slowly come out shell, and began to open up and trust Nell, even discovering his ability to manipulate paper with her. Unfortunately, that all changed when he went to school, as he relived his nightmare since he became a prime target for bullies, whether they be boys or girls. One day during lunch, the bullying got so bad that Locke finally snapped. All the paper from throughout the school converged and attacked the bullies while wrapping Locke in a protective paper cocoon. The incident ended with the bullies suffering many near-fatal injuries, severed limbs, and the area covered with deep gouges and destroyed property. Needless to say, Locke's isolation intensified along with a sense of fear by the other children. Locke completely shut himself off from other human beings with the exception of his mother from that day on.

Not long after the incident, Nell and Locke were driven out of town out of fear of Locke's ability, and were forced to move far away. They both eventually settled down in a large city where Nell opened up a new bookshop on the bottom floor of their apartment home. However, Locke was simply a shell of his former self due to his confidence and self-esteem being utterly shattered from the trauma he suffered. Locke attended a new school, but never spoke and kept his face in a book. He did not even bother to answer a teacher's questions when called upon or speak to the other students even if they were being friendly. That all changed one day, thanks to someone whose stubbornness refused to let them give up on Locke.

It all started second week of Locke's freshman year of high school. Cliques had been established, friendships were both made and lost, and Locke had isolated himself in the library, only leaving to go to class or go home. For better or for worse, one person sought to change all of that. Her name was Karoline Faux. She had a voice that could make anyone cry and could melt even the coldest of hearts, but deep down, she was a tomboy at heart. Karoline was also the most stubborn and eccentric people on campus, never letting anyone or anything get in her way. The only, was exception when it came to Locke.

It all started one day when Locke was on his way to class, when he bumped into Karoline. Still refusing to interact with others, Locke didn't even stop to apologize or even acknowledge her, which in turn, both irritated and angered Karoline. She followed Locke high and low from that point on, demanding an apology. Even going so far as to follow him home and waiting for him on his doorstep the next morning. In the end, the result remained the same with Locke refusing to acknowledge Song, which infuriated her to no end.

The cycle continued until Locke didn't show up to school one day and needed his homework brought to him. Song immediately seized the opportunity with the idea of being able to enter his home and force him to apologize. She quickly volunteered to take the homework from his classes to his home. When she arrived at Wulfe household, she was met with a tear stricken Nell. Karoline was welcomed inside and she told Nell the official reason she was there, saying she, "Wanted to give him his homework personally". Nell told her she couldn't for Locke had been stricken with a terrible illness that left him bedridden and unconscious for the past three days, only briefly regaining consciousness long enough for her feed and hydrate him. Soon they began to talk, and as they talked, Karoline asked why Locke acted the way he was. Nell told Karoline of Locke's childhood from the orphanage, all the up to present, with both in tears by the end. Karoline then asked her if she could see Locke before she left to which Nell allowed. Karoline entered Locke's room to find him lying quietly on his bed, coarse breathing and a pained expression on his face. She sat down next to Locke and began singing to him. By the end of her song, she noticed that Locke's face lacked the pain he once had, and even had a small smile.

After that day, Karoline would go over to the Wulfe household and sing to Locke by his bedside over the next three weeks without missing a day at the same time of the day. Locke's health gradually improved over the course of those three weeks. It was after the first week that Locke spoke his first words to anyone other than to Nell for the first time in years. A soft, "Thank you", was all he said, but it meant much more to those who knew him. By the end of the second week, Locke was well enough to stay conscious for longer periods of time, even holding a conversation. Karoline, slowly but surely, got Locke came out of his shell and it wasn't long before Locke had made his first and best friend. To his dismay, he a lot received teasing thanks to his mother. By the third week, Locke was well enough to return to school, to where many rumors that arouse throughout the school and several bullies sought to pick on their favorite target. This was all quickly crushed by Karoline as she personally put down every rumor that came up and had a "talk" with the bullies, one way or another. It was from that day forward that the two would have many strange and exciting adventures as they took on the world.

Personality: Despite his appearance, he is extremely shy, soft-spoken, empathetic, and has some serious self-confidence issues. He usually doesn't talk much unless spoken to and would rather read than talk. His introversion leaves him socially inept, but it does lead him to hilarious situations when it comes to women, especially if they flirt with him. Locke has great trouble interacting with others and making friends, but will fiercely cling to the bonds that he does make with others, and any books he comes across.

Though he is willing to fight to protect others or books, does not mean he enjoys fighting or hurting others in any way. This is mostly due to his high sense of empathy for others, regardless of whether they are good or evil, as he thinks all nobody deserves to die, despite their history.

Catchphrase: "Never judge a book by its cover."

Theme Song: [link]

Fun Facts: All of the clothing on Locke's upper body is in fact, made of thousands of sheets of black or white paper.

If even one person were to cheer or believe in him, his performance in and outside of combat drastically improves. The reverse is also true.

Yeah, same picture as the last one, but with a lighter skin tone. The correct skin tone now, which I failed to notice the first time. Missed it due to being so excited.

Indeed! Out of most manipulations, I find Paper Magic rather impressive, if one can push the limit of their imaginations.

Why thank you! I'm really flattered you admire my character.
I honestly never thought anyone would admire him for the matter. Could you tell me your reasons why?

Mourge40k In reply to oracleforhire [2010-12-01 23:47:17 +0000 UTC]

1. He has a pretty awesome ability.
2. I'm an unashamed fan of the "tragic past" sort of characters.
3. He has white hair. That's always an epic win in my book.
4. He's a bibliophile!

All awesome reasons!

I actually based his history and personality off Yomiko Readman, from Read or Die, and myself.
For some odd reason, those tragic and bittersweet backstories always make better characters. Weird, huh?

Mourge40k In reply to oracleforhire [2010-12-01 23:57:42 +0000 UTC]

The tragic backstories just suck people in. Of course, I generally use it as an excuse to make my OC's f***ed up monsters...

True. That sounded really dark. Not in a bad way, but just dark.

Mourge40k In reply to oracleforhire [2010-12-02 00:10:29 +0000 UTC]

Naturally. Things do tend to come out a bit menacing from me. The OC I'm going to be using for is a good example of that concept. BTW, out of curiousity, is this the guy you're going to be entering?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oracleforhire In reply to Mourge40k [2010-12-02 00:14:20 +0000 UTC]

I suppose.

Locke is the character I'm entering in :thegamesoct:

You're join that, too! Awesome!
I plan on using a different character though. It's Karoline "Song" Faux, who was mentioned Locke's biography. If things don't work out with her, then I'm going to enter Locke instead.

His name is Jubilation Grin. I've already submitted him. I have a distinct feeling that there's a lot of people who'll find him disturbing...

oracleforhire In reply to Mourge40k [2010-12-02 00:26:31 +0000 UTC]

No offense, but he sounds like something that would come out of Fallout: New Vegas.
If my characters do meet him, I can't imagine things to go well between them.

He's good, it's just considering my character's personalities, they'll mix like water and oil.
