actually the title is a misnomer since the Fokker dragon is based on the Dr.I triplane – hence the back fin, third wing, GET IT i'm a loseranyway uh WWI with Temeraire-style dragons, pretty much? the western front was dominated by small, fast lightweight dragons that were mass-bred for speed and obedience, usually at the cost of smarts.
S.E.s and Sopwiths are always those sorts of colours, with some variation in mottling and stuff; pretty much all British dragons used in WWI are brown/grey/green, whereas German dragons are pretty varied. (Loser points to anyone who can tell me why the Fokker is white.)
obviously these are JUST A FEW of the breeds but I made each manufacturer a breed rather than each individual type of plane – eg. the Sopwith is just one breed rather than there being Pups, Triplanes, Camels, Snipes etc. I did give the Sopwith a bit of a hump, though :'D

This is awesome! Very imaginative. I search the internet almost every day for WW1 aviation references and the closest thing I have for the reason behind the white Fokker is it stands out like Manfred Von Richtofen's Fokker triplane, other than that I'm stumped.

Surely aircrafts and better weapons can be deadly against larger dragons: however they can be still highly useful for transport/night operations. Fire-breathing and acid-spitters will probably still used, but you're right about lightweight will be perfect !! They are small enaugh to raid infantery and evade aircrafts v.v

Have to say that I keep coming back to this sketch because I just love the idea that you turned the old war planes into dragon species. Have you though of doing any other plane/dragons? If so I would certainly love to see them!

well, brief five minutes look makes me think Hans Weiss of jata 11.
Otherwise, good work. How about some two seaters? An r.e.8 or a b.e.2 would be good, with horns or something? But the b.e.2 for it's gunner afore pilot config.

Is the Fokker white becuase it's Aryan? Does it have blue eyes?
And have you read "Dragons of Babel" by Michael Swanwick? That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the dragon warplanes here, so I thought that was either possible inspiration or something you'd be interested in reading.

I've been sitting here thinking and thinking, running through famous Fokker Dr.I color schemes and I can't come up with a reason why a dragon modeled on that triplane would be white. Josef Jacobs painted his triplane black with a fire-breathing winged red devil emblem; Lothar von Richhofen's plane as I recall sported a red cowling and bright yellow tail, and his brother Manfred was of course famed for his color scheme, red with a white tail... and I couldn't think of any jasta markings that were predominately white either. White tails sure, but Dr.Is came with a rather unlikely-looking "Fokker" paint scheme, and the pilots typically just painted the tail to identify themselves.
Beyond that, I love the idea of dueling, dogfighting dragons taking the place of aircraft, spitting fire - do they spit fire? - at each other instead of machinegun fire... very cool.

I like the way the Sopwith's tail sticks out behind it. It's kind of pterosaury, like the world's biggest Rhamphorhynchus. (and yes, I did have to look up how to spell that)
