Description
This is a rather specialized subject. In the 1954 movie "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" the steam frigate USS Abraham Lincoln is on a mission to search for an alleged sea monster (the Nautilus). The main gun on the Lincoln is a pivot-mounted Dahlgren-style cannon (seemingly the 9-inch bore size). The gunports for this cannon are a casemate-style not found on any actual ships of the post Civil War period. Therefore no plans exist for this type of gunport, and no studio detail drawings have ever surfaced. Therefore I studied several shots of the gunport from the movie and behind-the-scenes stills to come up with what I feel is a fair representation of the feature to serve as a guide for any hobbyists wishing to model the Lincoln.
